1970 Duster Rebuild

-
I just wasn't happy with how the front turned out with the patches.. Thanks to @andysauto1 he had a good complete front section for me. With that and the good used rear section the floors will be as close as I can get to a complete 1-piece replacement. Thank you again @andysauto1!! 1 weekend at a time.

I ordered these BBP A bodies axles from dutchman. Very fast turnaround very high quality. Forged Alloy 1541-H with access hole.
I will be using a good Used OEM set of retainers/adjusters with Timken Tapered bearings.

Been plugging away on the duster floor. After many trial and error fitments i decided on the 1 piece floor pan i should have bought initially.. Here it is currently. Seat belt braces installed, parking brake bracket installed used self tapping screws to hold down before buzzing it in. Not finished and still a ways left to go, but my car finally has a floor again!

Went on a road trip today for duster parts. 410 miles round trip left a little after 9 this morning and home just before 6. These are factory A body Bucket seats with tracks. No tears or holes, deal was way to good to pass up. Seller had a few other goodies there for me too, but these are the crowning jewels.

Ground down the welds and got everything smooth. I'll get the seam sealer down and scuff the edm primer, floor should be ready for paint after that.

On today's episode of what the hell is big J working on. I Da sanded my duster floor with 120 grit and used rust bullet metal blast to prep. Once rinsed and dried i used 2 coats of rust bullet silver as the base to protect from future issues. Then hit it with 4 coats of paint.

When my dad sold his Duster July 2023 the next owner after that made some changes to it.. He removed the exhaust that was on it and recently posted the tips for sale. These are the reproduction 2 1/4 stainless steel tips that are correct for the car. I was able to buy them they were delivered this past week. This will make a nice edition to my Duster build!

Today's episode of what the hell is big J working on is door striker repairs. I was able to source some good used 73 duster door striker sections to repair mine. The early A body's had a bad habit of stress cracking around the striker. 73 and later Chrysler got smart and put a reinforcement plate. I harvested the reinforcement plate and use my striker plate holder and buzzed it together.

Now that’s some nice metal work .

Was this a Texas car , did it have rubber floor covering ?

Interior was missing when I got it and floor covering. It is a Tx car as far as I know. Very solid

Rinse and repeat on the drivers side.. This side was much worse. I carved up a washer the same gauge as the door jam section and gently buzzed it in. Once done with that installed the striker with reinforcement plate.

Those look like 73-75 Valiant Broughm 4 DR Bucket seats I had a set years ago the only problem with them is the backs dont hinge front to let someone in the back seat cause they came in 4 dr cars

Thankfully on this very forum 1 of our members came up with a fix for this. I have these parts in hand now and will install when I build out the interior.

Seat latches for buckets out of a 4 door

Thankfully it's just this lower section on both sides.. I'm finding out companies AMD included are only now repopping the 72-76 duster quarters. I guess there's more market for them and the 70 and 71 guys have to improvise.

Who did you buy the lower patch panels from? They offer both sides? Do they also offer patch panels for in front of the rear wheels?

Yes, they offer both sides. My car needs both lowers. I'm not sure on front quarter patches.
They are Goodmark brand

I was able to score these very gently used floor mats, they will look great against the green carpet once installed
