Hi Folks

Just got the glass installed in my 1971 Demon. I installed brand new DMT clip kits for both front and rear prior to installation. Come to install the stainless trim and the clips don't work worth a crap. Looking at the originals, there is a slight difference in their shape. Does anyone have any tips?

The originals did not have 2 different sizes.....They were all the shorter ones. These DMT clips are the same height, but won't catch.

Clips cannot be removed with the rubber gaskets installed.......HELP!

Thanks FABO

I have not used their window clips but have used other products of theirs and find them to be hit and miss As far as quality.

How are the edges of your stainless trim?

If the edge is distorted from removing the trim , they will not catch properly.

yes ive used many things from them i have no complaints

So, any of you folks that are having the same problems as me.........What have you done to make them "as good as they can get"?

I had a suggestion to cut the clips, and using a urethane adhesive, glue them on. I would suspect that would mean new trim and a new gasket if either window needs to be replaced.

Pisses me off....I have dozens of original rusty ones. In hindsight, I should have used those.

Suggestions please........

@CFD244 , it would be interesting to know if DMT uses the OER brand of clips or if they make their own; Classic sells the OER brand name of clips, they look very similar to what DMT has though, and Ive found the OER brand to be pretty good so far.
I know that doesnt help you right now, but it might if you have to put new clips in.

I googled a pic of OER, and they do look very similar if not the same.

Have you called Jim at DMT to get his take on them? He’s a stand up guy and does stand behind his products unlike a lot of manufacturers these days

I used a mix of aftermarket and original clips in my installation, and had more problems finding a screw that would work. It requires a number 8 thread size with a number 6 head flange screw. The 8 size head will not allow the trim to engage the clip. I also had to shorten aftermarket clips to fit into the A pillar channels correctly. I used AMD purchased trim. Just my 2 cents worth. I did purchase screw kits on ebag that claimed to be correct, but weren't.

I used the screws that came with the clips. Thin heads and beeswax on the threads.

I believe that. I will play around with them a little more. Not sure what Jim can do for me......The clips are in, the glass is sealed and the rubber will not let me change the clips. :(

I believe I used a set from vans auto front and rear. They worked ok, but were a little tricky to get the trim to lock on. I think the style of windshield gasket plays a role in success or not on these. My rear went better than the front. Swingn’

I have the original gaskets with lock strip.

I hope you get it figure out Troy. Pulling the glass is a pain but not the end of the world. I have to cross this bridge soon too. I believe I have 2 sets of new clips and half a set of the old clips...not sure where the new ones came from but at least 1 set was from Classic Industries so OER? They will need to be inspected closely before they go on.

UPDATE.......The majority of the clips had to be bent into shape to work. Basically, once they are installed and you are looking straight down at them, manipulate them so that the inner edge of the tang is even with the tip of the screw head or even the tiniest of gaps (makes a pinch point).

It appears to me that the screw head works in conjunction with the tang to grab the trim. With the original clips, there is a large tang and a couple of small fingers that hold the trim. The screw does not come into play.

Oh, and I had to hit it pretty hard to get the trim to catch.

Best of luck.

Can you take a pic of what you mean

I've used repops from three different suppliers on my '72 Duster and every one of them got it wrong. It's my impression there's only one manufacturer of these clips and everybody sells the same ones under their name. Ended up reusing the original ones I had left and redrilling holes for the new ones where I needed to use them as some of the originals were too rotted away.

Shame somebody doesn't get this right. Not many think to save the old ones and a lot of them can't be saved.
