I made a rookie mistake and over-torqued my head bolts to 80 ft-lbs. I was reading through Dutra's book and on page 107 it says 80 ft-lbs. (Other spec sheets say 65). Do I have anything to worry about? The engine is NOT installed yet so should I just start over again with a new gasket and re-torque just to be safe? I'm using the Fel-Pro 9076 composite gasket. Thanks for your help.

I’d run it. I wouldn’t back em off, I wouldn’t re torque em. I most certainly wouldn’t pull it apart to replace the head gasket. I don’t think 20 extra lb/ft will exceed the yield strength of the fastener.

Doug put that in there because it works w/no downside, unless You've got weak/damaged threads in the block(which should've been repaired regardless of tq.), You're good to roll.

Thanks. I think I was more concerned about "crushing" the gasket beyond what is normal. I feel better now.
