How much should a basic 340 rebuild cost?

Id pass on a 318 but rebuild a 340, 360, 383 maybe, 426 wedge and 440 for sure before I would swap them for a gen3. I would leave a gen 3 swap for a/6, 318 car or truck if I didn’t have a 440 ready to go.

Ok, I think I see what the issue was here.
I shared my machine shop bill because that was the part of my build which would align with a stock rebuild, just as an example of what the machine work might cost.
I never stated that my whole build was just a budget, basic rebuild. I was just trying to figure out an answer for the question of what a basic rebuild can be done for.
But since you asked:
I used assembled speedmaster heads and speedmaster roller rockers. Total cost for both was about $1,200. Should have waited for the black Friday sale for a better deal, but I didn't know that at the time.
Cam is a Hughes, HUG SEH2832AL-10. $292 is the current price, I think mine was about $270.
Double roller timing chain, HUG 6440. $122
Variable duration lifters, HUG 5003. Current price for 16 comes out to $266.
Push rods from Mancini, MRE 69691-16, $157.
Edelbrock Performer RPM Airgap intake. When I got it, I think it was a little under $400, but now they're listed at $474.
FiTech GoEFI power adder master kit with the Force Fuel Mini surge tank fed by the engines mechanical fuel pump. If I recall correctly, when I got mine it was about $1,400, but they are now listed at about $1,600.
Hindsight being what it is, there are some things I would change were I to do it again. But I did it myself and learned a lot through the process. I am very glad that I didn't pay to have someone else assemble it.

I pitch them a little while ago, I'm tired of messing with it. Everytime I say something you guys always say that's not true or that's impossible, that didn't happen. I feel that I shouldn't have to prove every little thing, this isn't a court room it's suppose to be a site where people can and do share information, experiences and such. This hobby isn't what it used to be. For some reason it's been made into who can out do who, who has the most spare parts, the most 340's laying around.

you said you had notes (in fact that you'd just checked them!) and when pressed for said notes, you conveniently "threw them out" and then not only did your fib fall apart, you then admitted to a second fib of not having actually done the practical work. which, that part probably doesn't surprise anybody.

I'm at 6K CDN 2 or 3 years ago into a stock 340 build with one sleeve and cast pistons.......I assembled it with the exception of frost plugs, cam bearings, and dist drive bushing.
