I bought a 273 engine and auto tranny for 200 dollars. I removed the heads and was glad to find it had original Mopar .030 pistons . I'm not selling but was wondering how rare these pistons are and what they are generally selling for.
I'll look for a part number. They are definately Mopar and they are not available anywhere else that I could find. These are the domed pistons in a Commando engine.I don't see any rarity, since Egge has offered them in many sizes for a long time. Do they sport a factory Chrysler part number?
Were your's Mopar or aftermarket ? If you consider them not rare can you point to a source for these ?They shouldn't be classified as "rare" They are just a +.030 273 piston. I put them in my 273 when I rebuilt it.
Egge has them all week long and twice on Sunday. They are good quality aftermarket, not Chrysler, though. What makes you think they are factory?I'll look for a part number. Mine were Egge pistons. Were your's Mopar or aftermarket ? If you consider them not rare can you point to a source for these ?
I'll try to get a pic of them as it's been a while since I researched them. I do remember that you could at one time get them from mopar but they quit offering them.Egge has them all week long and twice on Sunday. They are good quality aftermarket, not Chrysler, though. I always loved that Chrysler made the 273 a quench engine with those pistons. I wish they'd done the 340 like that.
Yeah, those are not the Mopar factory ones.
Yes, and like all the rest from Mopar, they were likely made by TRW.I'll try to get a pic of them as it's been a while since I researched them. I do remember that you could at one time get them from mopar but they quit offering them.
Yep. I don't get it. What's the angle here? +.030 pistons were probably available at the Mopar Parts counter back in the day. Rare? Why would that matter unless you are trying to sell them to someone and command a big price.Egge has them all week long and twice on Sunday. They are good quality aftermarket, not Chrysler, though. I'm sure you could buy them from Mopar back in the day. The HP 273 was only produced for 3 years so they didn't make them long.I'll try to get a pic of them as it's been a while since I researched them. I do remember that you could at one time get them from mopar but they quit offering them.
TRW part number is the same.Yes, and like all the rest from Mopar, they were likely made by TRW.
Thanks for confirming that. I thought that was the case. I've even seen TRW pistons with the pentastar stamp right on top.TRW part number is the same.
I guess that's what's goin on. lolYep. I don't get it. What's the angle here? +.030 pistons were probably available at the Mopar Parts counter back in the day. Rare? Why would that matter unless you are trying to sell them to someone and command a big price.
.030 273 Mopar pistons are probably fading away but still out there. I'm not sure what value could be added to be original Mopar over the counter replacement pistons as they would be inside an engine and no one would know or probably much care. There are still a few companies making pistons for a 273. The real deal would be finding forged ones.I bought a 273 engine and auto tranny for 200 dollars. As far as I know the original slugs were cast..030 273 actual Mopar pistons are probably fading away but still out there. Agreed. I'm trying to convey any 273 piston that is still offered as forged. As far as I know the original slugs were cast.
TRW may have made them. I don't have my catalog yet. It's on it's way.Agreed. I'm trying to convey any 273 piston that is still offered as forged.
I'm almost sure they did Mike. We built one in the 80's with TRW pistons and TRW Clevite bearings. It was a nitrous application.TRW may have made them. I don't have my catalog yet. It's on it's way.
2 barrel pistons but yes, not all that hard to find if you know where to look.My rebuilt 273 has .030 egge pistons. Work great, weren't hard to find or get.
