I bought a 273 engine and auto tranny for 200 dollars. I removed the heads and was glad to find it had original Mopar .030 pistons . I'm not selling but was wondering how rare these pistons are and what they are generally selling for.

I don't see any rarity, since Egge has offered them in many sizes for a long time. Do they sport a factory Chrysler part number?

I'll look for a part number. They are definately Mopar and they are not available anywhere else that I could find. These are the domed pistons in a Commando engine.

They shouldn't be classified as "rare" . No need to make them something they're not. They are just a +.030 273 piston. I put them in my 273 when I rebuilt it.

Egge has them all week long and twice on Sunday. They are good quality aftermarket, not Chrysler, though. What makes you think they are factory?

I'll try to get a pic of them as it's been a while since I researched them. I do remember that you could at one time get them from mopar but they quit offering them.

Yes, and like all the rest from Mopar, they were likely made by TRW.

Yep. I don't get it. What's the angle here? +.030 pistons were probably available at the Mopar Parts counter back in the day. Rare? Why would that matter unless you are trying to sell them to someone and command a big price.

I'm sure you could buy them from Mopar back in the day. The HP 273 was only produced for 3 years so they didn't make them long.

I believe you are confusing rare with collectability. Your not going to come across them every day. That said, they are not new old stock in original boxes and they are USED 273 pistons, not Hemi pistons.

There is an *** for every seat and you may find a fool to throw alot of cabbage at you, but IMO, it's a foolish endeavor.

.030 273 Mopar pistons are probably fading away but still out there. I'm not sure what value could be added to be original Mopar over the counter replacement pistons as they would be inside an engine and no one would know or probably much care. There are still a few companies making pistons for a 273. The real deal would be finding forged ones.

As far as I know the original slugs were cast.

we are building a 273 with a D66 dual quad (which we finally found here) thanks FABO. If you find they are offered forged please post that. The pistons are the last piece to the puzzle to add nitrous.
TRW may have made them. I don't have my catalog yet. It's on it's way.
I'm almost sure they did Mike. We built one in the 80's with TRW pistons and TRW Clevite bearings. It was a nitrous application.
