Thinking of starting a Mopar club?

-
Your right, they are out of East Bethal, MN. I've been a member since last Sept. I just have the bug to get my own club going. I would like to do a lot of cruises, and other fun summer activites.

my brother started a car club, basicly 2 years later they voted him out of the club. all the other original members where already gone and another group took over, a year later the club was no more.

You've only been a member since Sept. Have you seen the calender of 2007 club activities and the summer events don't interest you?? Or they just don't have any events planned??

Why not get involved with that existing club and suggest and champion your ideas for events. I bet they would love someone to be an event coordinator for selected events.

But if you just suggest some event ideas and expect everyone else to do all the hard work, you probably aren't going to get them to do the events you want.

Look at it this way, if you start your own club you'll have to do all that work too and organization. And you surely won't get any help to start out with for a while.

Contact the Midwest Mopars club president and say that you want to do some cruises and you have some ideas. Present a rough plan. Here's a list of some event our club does: http://www.cpwclub.com/club.html

I haven't driven around Minneapolis in over 8 or so years but.... :

Midwest Mopars Poker Ralley
-meet a 9 am in Mall of America Parking lot -draw card
-drive around lake Minnetonka -stop at various points to get cards. Hopefully big parking lots with some senic backround
-eat lunch at that old burger place (Porkey's) in southwest Mnpls
-count cards and award prizes to best hands. Something for first 20 or so cars.

You need: a bunch of cards, contact the place you want to eat, make sure there is enough room at you planned stops for the cars you expect, and get some prizes. Maybe you don't need prizes, just a 50/50 raffle to raise some club funds?

Remember the K.I.S.S rule: Keep It Simple Stupid

Autoxcuda, you have a lot of good ideas, ted_sweet, sorry to hear about what happened to your brother. certainly things I didn't even consider. I really want to get out and be more visible with my car. I've got a new motor, sweet sounding exhaust...I just want to get out there!

A local guy here started one up and was doing well. But some things he said and promised never came to be and when quized on whats going on, he ended up telling lies and tall tales..... It ended up being a money issue that wasn't making any sense. X amount of members multiply by *** in dues equals lots-o-money. And he claimed broke.

The club folded on itself. A great club no lays in waste due to B/S by the founder.

Hey Mick, that sounds like a great idea, I always wanted to start a "Mopar" car club myself in central MN. I have a lot of family and friends who have mopars that would join if I did. I always thought about the "money" thing too. One thing I like is how laid back some smaller clubs can be. Maybe you don't need to do much with money, just organize a couple of cruises, hang out, show up together at car shows, pot-luck BBQ's etc. Don't make lots of promises, just have fun, after a year, see where it goes!

One thing off the subject is in I believe it is Anoka, MN, every saturday nite in the summer a bunch of cars hang out at a diner, there has been up to 1,000 cars showing up, all oldies! They do charge a fee to get in, one whole $1!. I have to ask my dad where this is, he knows and has been there.

There is another old car hang out in Big Lake, MN at the A&W, maybe every other Sat? Lots of sweet old cars.

I am anxious to get my Valiant at these events, Mick, I will be sure to let you know when these are!

My local club is different, they are dying to have energetic people that can organize get togethers and deal with logistics.
It is a little stale at times on the local get togethers, but they put on some really nice big shows at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and other places.

I think they should have more county by county get togethers.

Why don't you talk to the pres of the big club and get yourself involved with the current members.
I'm sure the club might be excited to see some fresh energetic blood that may energize otherwise stagnant members.

Keith, let me know. Are you coming down to Farmington for the show? Let me know your plans, we can get together and have a beer or two.

I wouldn't miss it for the world! I will have my car in the A body Plymouth class, would imagine you will be in A Body Dodge? For some reason if I don't bring the 66 Ply, I would take the 70 Dart. See ya there! :toothy10:
