The snout of the bearing retainer on my 4 speed broke off clean at the base, I noticed it when I was trying to push the clutch fork back to the rear to install the clutch linkage, When I pushed rearward on the fork I can see the TO bearing move forward contacting the forks on the pressure plate. The piece that broke off moves with the TO bearing. The only thing we did was rotate the crank to tighten the pressure plate bolts. Now, I need to pull the tranny and see what's up. Any suggestions?

Mine went too, Just got a new retainer..and pressure plate, clutch disc and to bearing. Have fun, man those trans are heavy! This time I'm putting in OD. I just picked up a od 833 and bell, so it's going to be a winter job!

I can't understand how it broke. The motor has never bven fired. All we did was rotate the crank to gain access to the pressure plate bolts. I can't imagine we broke it putting it in?

Mine snapped right at the base. I think the pressure plate was the cause, but I did see some wear when I replaced the clutch. It looks like the retainer has a weak spot near the flange. I picked one up at Carlisle last summer and have yet to put in in. I'm running a 727 in it now and miss the 4 spd. Can't wait to try the OD in the car.

I know you have to weld a bead around the base to reniforce it. I have one laying around but for the life of me I can't figure why mine broke from just sitting on the rack and rotating the crank

What kind of bellhousing ? Did you indicate it in ?

I had to replace mine also, it was cracked. I think Ihad to shell out $80 bux. I would never weld around base for reinforcement. It would likely weaken it right above the weld. bell should be checked for concentricity, something I did`nt do. I think this is chrysler engineering weak link.
