Rear quarter panel destroyed

Yesterday we installed back disc brakes on my son-in-laws car took it for a test drive and the brakes got real hot. When we got back to the shop we jacked it up pulled the rear tires and figured out what was causing them to heat up.
We put the tires back on and started working on other things.
Larry worked on getting the heater control wires hooked up and the only thing left to do to his dart was get the defroster tubes installed.

He decided to take the dart to the store to make sure the brakes didn't get hot.
About a mile from my shop the left rear wheel came off at about 35 mph and pretty much destroyed the rear quarter panel. He wasn't hurt just shook up.

Some how we forgot to tighten the lug nuts on that side. A stupid mistake for sure:angry7: and one that should never happen.

Now a car that was close to 100 % done is back in the shop and we have to figure out how to fix it. :dontknow:

Hate even admit to forgetting something as rudimentary as tightening up the lug nuts, but it happened and here is the aftermath.

Man, I hate that for you. I've had a trailer tire come off and pass me, and I've had a rear tractor wheel come off. Very scary. Glad everyone is okay, at least the car can be fixed.
 
Words cant describe how bad that sucks. Man I feel for ya keep us posted on the progress of the repair.
 
thats going to be tough to straighten.
looks like a replacement is needed.
 
That sure made a good night a bad one :angry7:, I am so sorry to hear this happen to your son-in-laws Dart :angry7: It could have been worse and this will open some eyes here at this site that to always retrace your steps.
It can be fixed and looks like yall have the skills to get her back in shape
 
Nice car! Hate to hear about the accident but like was said before it can be fixed.

Like the wheels & tires what size and backspacing you using?
 
Better get back to work. It can be fixed,but your pride will suffer for a while.

So sorry about what happened :pale:. Glad your son-in-law was not injured and it does look like it could be repaired.....
 
That's sux no doubt,but at least no one was hurt.Ya got your work cut out for ya now,that's a sweet ride.8)

Thanks Mike, Our pride was the only thing besides the panel that took a beating. :-D
 
Still a nice car!!! Sorry it happened. I think I would have to walk away from it for awhile. Im glad you are sticking to it.
 
Wow! Now how depressing is that? So sad to see that damage to such a sweet looking machine.

Good luck to you on the repairs. Yes, it can be fixed. It's just steel and paint. I'm glad everyone is ok and it wasn't worse. Take care.
