That SpliSeal setup looks pretty slick! Also take a look at the Posi-Lock line of connectors, taps, fuseholders and such. I like 'em a lot; see the Allpar article.

Looks like the Deutsch line of products. (which I have used many, many of.)
For simplicity very nice, longevity, quite another issue.
I mean no lack of respect slantsixdan, just my experience .
The absolute Bane of current flow (read performance) is voltage drop
through connectors.

My oldest installations of the Posi-Locks that I still have in service were done in 1997 and are still fully intact without voltage drop or other problems. I don't know how similar or different they are to the Deutsch connectors you've used, but it sounds like you have not used the Posi-Locks. So I'll make ya a deal: I won't comment on the Deutsch line 'til I have some experience with them, and...! ;-)

Does anybody know where to source new replacement connectors for all the stock connectors? I will be building a complete car harness from scratch and would prefer not to reuse the 35 year old connectors. My only option so far is to buy a complete new harness from Year One for $250 and cut it apart - for obvious reasons, I'd rather not pay them to build it just so I can tear it up.

you can use the old plastic, just pull the brass and go to www.riwire.com and get new brass either crimp or solder. I think ours is listed under the Ford blades in components.

I don't know if this helps but theses are the wiring diagrams from my 1969 Dart original service manual. Sorry that they are not perfect because they are scanned from a book.

Hey Guys,
I thought I would up date the progress on the harness.
I have the stuff starting to accumulate, thanks to the posts here I have sources for the rest of the connectors, I just still have to find reasonable priced male halfs to the round mil-spec bulkhead connectors in the pic. On average these connectors cost around $50ea, I got the females BCs for $3.
The blue connector is a 30pin for the console wiring harness allowing me to work on that at a separate time. The spools are the traveler cable, and the other stuff is the rear lighting harness and high Amp relay modules.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I plan on a military 24-pin twist-lock instead of the factory 3x8 pin connectors. But the actual device connectors will be a huge help!

I hesitate to resurrect this thread because of someone who has already participated.
But,..... here are the progress pics from the wiring harness work.
I first labeled all of the conductors (more than 30) and then disassembled the factory connectors to reuse the crimp ends.
In most cases I increased the size of the wire a couple of gauges. I reassigned some of the conductors Im not using for the airbag to the horn. This allowed me to split the feeds from the paddle shifters, so that the up shifters are separate from the down shifters circuit wise. I can always recombine them at the other end.
Because I still dont know what it will take to integrate the paddles with the 545RFE its easier to leave myself all possible options.

I'm planning on DIY our 67 and 69 cuda dash harness.
Factory 67 manual doesnt have a barracuda schematic for reference, but I have the supplement. BUT supplement doesnt give wire gauge sizes??
The Valiant schematic has the gauges, I would think they are same as barracuda?

Fyi, I used a combo of existing harnesses with a Painless 7 fuse block, which replaced my stock fuse block.
Added pos and neg hubs.
Even with only 7 fuses, I have a stereo, efi, and items that were not originally fused are now, like the heater and light switch.
I posted it all here, somewhere.
Bought this laminated colored diagram years ago, which was a great tool.

Ok couple questions while I stock up supplies.
1. I have a good selection of 14 gauge wire. Is it ok to sub this in where the 16 gauge is called for? Bigger is better, but I wasnt sure how much more "awkward" it would make the harness? Also I believe most connectors are the same size 14 vs 16?
Question 2. What are the open ended connectors called in dash? Pic attached

A little about factory service manual wiring diagrams. You can tell the wire gauge by the circuit identifier. Here's a section of the '72 Demon rear harness diagram. In the circuit identifier B2-18V, the B2 is the circuit name (so you can follow it page to page if necessary) and the 18V denotes 18 gauge wire, Violet in color. You might see a color identifier such as ODGN* that would be Orange with a Dark Green tracer. The wire gauge is predicated on the fuse protecting it and the expected draw, of course. So you should be able to get the info you need from a similar car/year wiring schematic by looking at corresponding lights, gauges, accessories etc.
