This Sunday while searching locally for a 69 fender for my Dart, A close Mopar friend of mine took me by his childhood friends (Another Mopar Friend) house to see if he could help..To my surprise, he had about 12 Mopars in his backyard. I noticed a 67 under a car cover and asked about it...Jokingly, he made a face at me and told me not to even look in that direction. As we walked over to the car, he told me the entire history of this rare 67'. It was 1 of 229 ever made BIG BLOCK 383 FOUR SPEED MR. NORMS 'GSS DARTS'. He is 2nd owner and bought it from a local dealership 30 years ago.. Amazing sight to see. He wasn't sure how many were left in the world but I did find one for sale in PA. claiming to be the only one in existance...Anyone know how many still exist? He says he would sell everything he owned (including a AAR Cuda)before he got rid of it..I don't blame him!

The sad thing is its under a cover and outside in the yard. That would be a rare car to own and there is a guy that has all the recoreds for Mr. Norms but right now I cant think of who it is.

I would be suspect about it. The numbers he quoted for you are the number of 67 GTS 383 4 sp Darts that were built. They also made 228 with a 727. I know I'm restoring one for another member that is an auto.

I agree, I can't see there being 229 Mr Norm 67 383 4spd's. He build the first BB Dart, before Chrysler built any but I can't see where he built or modified the same number as Chrysler built in 67. That means that the only 67 BB 4spd Darts around would be Mr Norm cars.

This may not be 100% accurate, but the way I understand how the BB A-Bodies came about is Mr Norm asked for a BB Dart but was told they couldn't do it so he built one and took it to some executives and Chrysler and showed them, and supposedly they told the engineers to look at what the boys in Chicago built and if they can do it so can we.

That is what I'm thinking, according to GTS Registry, they made 457 67 383 GTS DARTS. 228 with auto. and 229 with 4sp. I agree that mr Norm had alot to do with a BB Dart ever coming to be. It is a damn shame that 1 of 229 Dart is sitting outside under a car cover.

You know the saying, "I'm going to restore it some day".

Actually someone else will, after the car rots even more and he finally decides 20 years from now he isn't going to restore it. Then whoever buys it has a ratted pile of **** to restore.

Do you want to buy one? A friend of mine has a 67 GTS 383 4 speed car. It is Govier decoded and is in the GTS registry. It needs a resto but everything is there and it comes with a ton of NOS parts, as well as quite a few spare used parts. All the hard to find 67 only parts are there. 15K will buy it and not a penny less. It is paint code 881 blue with a blue bucket seat interior. It is also a console car and includes the original mint 4 speed inland shifter.

Here is my AA1 silver, w/red interior, radio delete, automatic, 383.

Yes it is. The only place that the GTS badges show up are on the front fenders, both sides. This was a late year model so that rushed to get the car out and left the GT badging in most spots.

I may contact you on some facts and info when I get to the point of reassembly if that is OK with you. The one I'm doing has a build date of feb 67.

The "GSS" Darts that rolled out of Mr. Norm's were 1968 440 cars. Hurst built 50-odd 440 Darts for Grand Spaulding for the 1968 model year. The 440 GTS built in 1969 were all made in Hamtramck, MI on the regular line.

This car may have been ~bought~ at Grand-Spaulding, but it is no GSS.

Kind a late to the thread, but a question. I have heard the Mr Norm description of the big block dart. But, Mother Mopar was doing the BB Barracuda from the beginning. Dart and Barracuda are the same under the hood. So wouldn't it be easy for Mr Norm to get the BB parts from Mopar or a junk yard by that time and put one together just like Mother would have? Mother could have done it from the beginning but I think it was a policy decision. Ideas?
