small block oil pan FYI

The KEVCO small block 318-340 6qt oil pan will not fit without modifying the K-frame on the front pass. side. It is listed to fit all chassis that take a center sump pan, but they must not have tried it in an early a. Does anyone know how the Moroso 8 qt 360 pan fits the early A? When I build my 408 I don't want to go through this again installing the engine.
 
That sounds similar to a Milodon 8 qt pan. The k-member needs a notch cut out of it for ther right front corner of the oil pan. I believe it barely clears in the car, but installation and removal of the engine with the pan requires the notch. This is on later a-bodies.
 
The low profile Milodon fits perfectly if you shave an inch off the corners. Why go the more difficult route of notching & potentially weakening the K?

The notch in the k-member is not enough to worry about. It's confined to the lip area, not in the boxed area. But welding a bead across the cut section would be a lot easier than cutting up a nice oil pan!

Besides, I like the fact that the 8 qt. is flared and a little shallower than the Moroso, but deeper than the 7 qt. Milodon Lo-Pro. The only down-side to the Milodon 8 qt. is that TTI headers are one of only 2 or 3 conventional headers that will work with it. Milodon may have addressed that problem with their 7 qt.
 
I have been out there notching the K frame. I am also going to weld in reinforcement at the notch just in case. The angle of the rf corner of the pan hits the bend in the K frame hard, so maybe the Moroso doesn't have as shallow an angle. Would love to post pics, can't get my Vista to upload.
 
Would love to see pics of where your notching,as I will need to be doing this in the near future.Maybe someone can chime in and upload the pics for you.I,m not so good at uploading sent pics through e-mails,otherwise I would help.Thanks
 
RH side, rear corner where the bend is, that's where I had to cut a notch and box it in. Got the engine in, but the notch should have been bigger. 2" forward from the rear would be better. My pan will probobly hit if the motor shakes(which I'm sure it will) but at this point I'm going to run it. Temporary engine installed until the 408 get's built.
