Right. All of the polys had forged cranks as did most of the 273 LA motors. One of the reasons for the LA motor was to cut weight. I think a cast crank is okay to about 650 HP. i don't expect more than 500-510.

Rules say either run a 273 block with no weight penalty or a 318 with weight penalty or go home. I spoke to a tech inspector at SVRA who said be able to certify the crank and try using a 340 block. He would not guarantee approval.

Anyone out there making a 2.56 stroke crank for the B motor? The con rods would need to be about 10 inches long.

Wow! I would like a dyno sheet on that motor. W-8 heads could not stay on motor if they are aluminum (rules).

Will the block take a .040 cut? I thought the max was .030.

Suggest adding an EGT (exhaust gas temperature) gauge & oil temp gauge to cluster. Shutting off a hot engine can lead to coking of oil on the bearings. The coke that forms can hurt the shaft, seals, and bearings eventually leading to oil leak, smoking and failure. IIRC the early rustclang...
