    8 3/4 pinion splines

All 741 pinion are suppose be 1 3/8 with a 29 spline Pinion according to every parts manufacturer I've found. That's why I can't figure this one out.

    8 3/4 pinion splines

So ,I finely got around to disassemble my 741 housing. The new ring and Pinion has 29 spline pinion, as all the parts catalogs show. But mine has a 10 spline pinion . I measured the Pinion thickness, both old and new are 1 3/8 thick anyone ever run across this before?

    8 3/4 differential with 10' brakes

I don't know what the difference between the a,b,c and e body backing plates. I haven't made it over to where I store the differential. Maybe tomorrow I can get over there tomorrow to take pictures. I could probably repair them, but I would by new ones if they weren't too pricey.

    8 3/4 differential with 10' brakes

It's out of 1971 Demon that sat in field for 30+years. It's a small bolt pattern. The brake drums are shot. There badly rusted. It has 4:10 gear, that's rust pitted. It think I may have bent the drums when trying to get them off. I did find rear drums at Layson restoration.

    8 3/4 differential with 10' brakes

So I finally broke down and bought a 8 3/4 small bolt pattern differential. Unfortunately the brake backing plates are damaged. Any know if they are reproduced? I can find all the other brake parts in need.

I all ready have the intake and timing cover off. I will be removing the valve covers next. I will be cleaning and flushing the engine. I will drain the oil, replace the filter, run it and change it again.

1972 318, coolant getting into oil

I drove it less than 3 miles, never lost oil pressure. Let cool for about a hour and moved it into the car port,no noises, so I think I'll be ok.

1972 318, coolant getting into oil

Thank you gentlemen. I believe, when this car was in California, some was running it with water in the cooling system. It's has had all the freeze plugs replaced before I got the car. To put that much coolant in the oil in less that a 1/2 hour and it ran good,I can believe I have a head gasket...

1972 318, coolant getting into oil

It has 176,000 miles on it. I'm the second owner and have all the maintenance records. I did notice a few drops of coolant by the cover late last year. I'm going to pull the cover off tomorrow. Thanks !

1972 318, coolant getting into oil

So, I just got my Demon out of storage. On the 2 mile ride home, it overheated. It put a gallon of coolant into the engine oil. It also had coolant in the air cleaner. I pulled the plugs, no coolant on them. It also ran good,no missing, or running rough. I pressure tested the cooling system. I...
