I have a 4.56:1 rear posi punkin that I would swap for the higher gears. straight across trade. My daughter loves my Duster, but wants mileage instead of hp. I'm in southern California and for medical reasons can't leave the area. barry91765 at g male
I don't have the 3.23:1 gears anymore. They would be acceptable, but right now the only gears I have are 3.55:1 and the mileage is terrible. Here in California, premium gas is near $6 per gallon, and it used to get 17 mpg with the stock 3.23"s.
You need to get a plug flashlight/magnifier that lets you look at the bottom of the ceramic for accurate plug reading. That way you won't have to cut off the threads. Just looking at the photos you posted, I'd say that you are running very rich. What jets do you have in the carb?

I have a 4.56:1 pumpkin for the 8 3/4 rear with posi. I'm 76 years old now and want to leave a street drivable car for my daughter who loves my 1970 Duster 340. I'll trade for your 2.94:1 pumpkin with posi if they are compatible. I'm in Diamond Bar, California. barry91765 at g male
Just spray it with Maltby brand penetrating fluid. The only place I've found it is in Riverside, California. 510-993-1932 work, or 866-562-5829 mobile. It works way better than PB Blaster or WD-40. It works so good that I bought a case.
A friend of mine had a '71 Duster 340 and put a Paxton on it. He had all kinds of trouble. First, the hollow brass floats were crushed (4-5 psi boost), then the "hat" carb cover leaked everywhere, then it would run lean on boost. Over and over. It took him 2 months to get all the little...
I have a magnetic caster/camber gauge, and I use my spare tire/wheel and another spare from a junkyard (both with steel rims and same size tires) to set the alignment. After the alignment is set, put the mags back on and you are ready to roll.
I have a 1970 Duster 340 that needs 100 octane gas (stock). In order to make it run on 91 octane (California), I disabled the MECHANICAL advance and run initial at around 10 degrees, and then tailor the vacuum advance to yield the most advance without pinging. I outran a 1969 Hemi Road Runner...
A zero deck is when the pistons are level with the top of the block at TDC. A negative deck CLEARANCE is when the pistons stick out of the block. A positive CLEARANCE is when you have MORE clearance, such as when the pistons are down in the hole at TDC. The key word here is CLEARANCE. If you...
