    engine ID# versus veh serial #

    1971 Duster 340. My engine casting number (14 digits) identifies the correct engine for my vehicle but the 8 digit vehicle serial number located right above oil pan rail does not match the last few casting digit numbers. Freak, mystery or mistake?

    Cooling problems over the many years but never blew same freeze plug before. 71 340, minor modes-intake, cam, roller rockers, headers. Running with no problems 4 years. Blew side freeze plug. Replaced, then blew after 2-3 miles. Figured not properly set flush, installed another, same results...
