  • Hi Redfish,
69bcuda - All gauges still work (Move) - but a 10-80 ohm sending unit, hard wire ground to Batt and bottomed out on E reads 5/8 full, with unit both in/out of tank.
Used a digital meter on the sending unit lead and get 12.6 volts. Can a IVR be bad and send 12v? Or do I need a different sending unit ? I read 0-90 somewhere - I do not wish to burn my gauges
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I know this - and the "capacitor" you speak of is also called a "Condenser." It is the same as on a points ignition system ~ and serves the same function because the IVR is "Internal Voltage Regulator is a set of points that "Vibrate" to "Resist" or rather cut 12v voltage down to 5 volts "INSIDE" the back of the fuel gauge.

First image is how you bypass The internal voltage regulator "With an external resistor" when the IVR burns - "IF" your gauges have survived. If it burns and the points remain closed like mine it passes FULL 12 volts to Fuel, temp, & oil gauges as shown in the circuit board with red wire connected. In my case - I will simply interrupt the 12volt feed wire with the 5v resistor.
I think you know all this?

:mob: Three posts above to convey one message! This website may be a good source of info, but the format BITES! Cant even upload images that are not already online... grrrrr!
Hey Redfish, Im getting to the part of installing external RTE regulator for the dash. I have access to back of dash and windshield is out. Im hoping to not remove mother boards and extracting fuel gauge to do the job. If the IVR is working at the moment should I do it?

    Thanks,
    David

No matter what brand of regulator you'll install, you must take the panel out, take the panel apart and disable the original. 2 of them in one circuit will not work properly.

Thanks! Its working with the original and Im not really wanting to do surgery, but Its accessible now......so.....I probably should.
a good friend named john from fayetteville is having rallye gauge problems
would you mind calling him 910-354-9007
    thanks

Hey boss. I read somewhere you're running a /6 with Saginaw power steering. Was wondering if it's the early or late style Saginaw pump, and if you have any photos of the brackets(how they're oriented, shape). Trying to source parts for myself and having a tough time, the set I bought does not fit unfortunately.
Redfish you helped me a lot in the past on dash wiring problems. I need to know if you still work on them. I know you used to fix the gauges and sell an IR (I think it is called.) and take some metal part out of the gas gauge and mount that regulator.would you let me know Please Howard

I retired. Opening the fuel gas to disable that limiter never was necessary anyway. I can't explain what does need to be done in less than 420 characters here. I'll send you a PM
