I wear a sad face while I mention those techs that report,"it needs brake pads" when it doesn't.
Maybe the computer threw a code based on milage covered. At xxK miles it surely needs brake linings.

It is possible to replace the input shaft seal in the car but,,, aleast 1 member here has screwed up with the shade tree (draw screw) method. Very little surface to put a screw through. Damage to shaft or bore can happen.

I'll assume the fade away is caused by a slight radius in the surface. Strongest transfer at the top of the hill. A good airbrush job could get close to that OEM appearance.
Very little of the panel will work while it is dangling from its harness connectors. Adding a actual ground wire is highly recommended.
I always see everything working on the workbench before going back to the car.
That fuse isn't hot until headlight switch is pulled to park lamps. Illumination bulbs won't work while panel isn't chassis grounded by its mounting screws.hope this helps
Current seeks any ground.Chassis ground is a must/first. I don't know that the current could find a ground path through the antenna or speaker connection but you would not want that.
Just a FYI for anyone considering a sticker to alter or renew the screen appearance, those things are the most difficult to apply. The needle/pointer must be removed. While the instrument is in the panel a triangle shaped flag like portion opposite the limb cannot be seen. What is more hidden is...
