X-Head Flow Numbers - What to do

Did you polish the exhaust side along with porting? I did my x heads the same way as you and was able to get 238 int and 176 exh. I polished the crap out the exhaust side. Not sure if that made any difference.

    Cleaning a crankshaft

Thanks everyone for the advice! I have some 400 grit emry cloth that I can use. I'm a little nervous to run anything through the journals though, they have been chromed! Any ideas?

    Cleaning a crankshaft

Just curious if anyone had any ideas of how to get surface rust off of main and rod journals of a crank without damaging them or machining them? I have tried solvent and a brush but with no luck. Any ideas are much appreciated!

    headers

Ok thanks, what kind of header would be good to run? Keeping in mind I don't want to run a full exhaust system.

    headers

My pops had them on his 64 1/2 Dart GT. I was thinking they would fit but not 100% sure. I also didn't want to run anything other than just headers. Any thoughts are welcome.

318 head porting for the average joe

Those are good numbers. I flowed my 340 X heads after removing the casting flaws, rounding edges and polishing the exhaust. My numbers were 238cfm int and 178cfm exh. Good work and nice thread!

    headers

Has anyone ran or is running fender well headers? If so do you like or dislike? I have a set that I was planning to use for my 340 build and will go in my 73' Swinger. I believe they are 1 5/8" tubes to 3" collector.

    340 build

Planning on building a 727 I got out of a 76 dodge van. Still need to get ahold of an 8 3/4 rear end. With the rockers is there a particular ratio to go with or is it specific to the engine?

    340 build

The springs are duel with a damper, two round springs and flat damper. I didn't do any cutting on the spring seats. Like I said its the same setup as when my dad had them in his car. All I did was port and polish the runners, do a valve job, check the spring tension, check the pushrods and valve...

    340 build

The engine was my dads that he had in his 64 1/2 GT Dart. I am reusing the valve springs and pushrods but everything else that's aftermarket I have replaced. So I know that the valve springs are going to work, I did all of the head work myself while in school and checked all parts and flow...

    340 build

I have been buying parts for my 340 build for a while and not sure if i have a workable setup. I have a 68' 340 with "X" heads. The block has been bored 30 over, the heads have been ported and polished and have stock valves and rockers. Has chromoly pushrods and Isky double valve springs, stock...
