Hey, I just bought the 15x8 ralley wheels with 4 5/8 backspacing for my 71 Duster. Now im trying to find the widest possible tire that will fit w/out rubbing (hoping for 275-60-15 or 295-50-15 BFGs). Also hoping to not move the springs. Oh and my car has a built 340 out of a 1970 Cuda', 3:91 Posi, 4-speed (E-body Pistol Grip)..bla bla. All by the age of 19. Anyways Thanks a lot

Thats a lot of backspacing with out moving the springs. I had some centerlines with the same backspacing on my Barracuda. Widest I could get with out hitting the spring was a 255-60

ya i have the same ones 4.500 back spacing and im going 275/ 60

He said his are 4-5/8" Not really the same ones, LOL

I was on the phone with another member the other day whos running a 15X8" Rallye with 4.5" backspacing and a 275-60. They hit the springs. He added some Mr Gasket spacers and sheared all the lugs off of the right hand side.

o im also going to SS springs too. and Theres someone else whos running these with out any mods

I have 15x10" ProStars with 4.5" with 295/50R-15" tires on the rear of my Dart Sport. They fit without the offset shackles even. I have about 1/2"-3/4" clearence to the springs. The tires are close to the outside lip but with an 8" wheel a 275/60R-15 should fit good.

Just some info if interested in moving your springs in 3/4". These are 325 x 50 x 15 on 10 x 15 rims with 5.0" back space. RS Rancho 9000XL rear shocks & S.S. springs.

I have SS springs in the stock location. I also use Weld Prostar rims that are 15"x8" with 4.5 bs with 28"x11.5" QTP's.....With a 8"rim,the side wall bulged some and it rubbed the leafs a little so I put on Mr Gasket 7/16" wheel spacers and they didnt rub any more.
Ive gone 12.00's and have NEVER sheared off the studs. The trick is to use "long shank" lug nuts that go thru the rim and spacer.

Im looking to trade my rims for a set of 15"x10" and I think a 4"bs. If someone is interested,PM me here.

Hey Daniel....Any pics from the back end to see how close your tires are from the leafs??

Just something to keep in mind..... A 15x10" wheel with 4.5" backspacing will actually move the CENTERLINE of the tire 3/4" farther away from the leaf spring than a 15x8" wheel with the same backspacing. When wheel width changes and backspacing stays the same then the OFFSET of the wheel CENTERLINE changes. This is why I dislike it when manufacturers only list backspacing & leave it up to us to determine offset.

If you can determine how far the mounting surface of your brake drum is from the middle of your tire clearance area (Like the area between your wheel lip & leaf springs, for example), then you just need to divide that by two to determine the offset necessary to center your wheel in that space. After that, you just buy the width wheel you want with that offset number. To hell with backspacing. If the offset is correct, the wheel will always be centered, whether the wheel is 6" wide or 10" wide.

Backspacing numbers suck. :toothy10:

I'm not sure why but I did not get an e-mail notification when you replied Mike. My apologies.

As I stated in my above post I have (or had with the ProStars) 1/2" tire to spring clearance at any point.

Hey Daniel,

No problem,I just posted last night,I think. For some reason your pics didnt work, just red X's HOW did you get 1/2" of clearance from the tire to the leafs?? My prostars are 15x8 with 4.5 bs and my tires rubbed the leafs. I think it depends on the tires and how much they bulge....My QTP's bulge but maybe the M/T DR's wont as much.

NOT to hi-jack this thread but I really dont know if I should keep my 15x8 with 4.5bs wheels or get 15x10 with 4.5bs????

Hahahahaha, well that explains why I didn't get the e-mail notification until then...lol.
I guess I wasn't thinking clearly at that time of morning! #-o

If i were you I'd stick with the 15x8"s.
I wonder why the photos aren't working now...dog-gone Imageshack!
Give it time, they'll eventually start working again.

Here is my Duster with 15 x 8" wheels that have a 4.5" backspacing:
