I came across a mid seventies Aspen wagon with a slant 6 and was suprised to see a long 4 speed shift lever out of the trans hump. It appears to be factory. Does it have any value? I couldn't decide if I wanted to go back and get the trans and pedals from the wrecking yard, since I really like my automatic 904. The shift knob said 1,2,3, o/d.
Maybe it is a weak trans with no value?
Thanks All !

Yes, its worth keeping... Its the same fourspeed used in the late a-body years of the dart & duster. I have one myself which I plan to install into my 70 Dart. I have a friend who just pulled one from a 76 Aspen wagon and installed into his 66 Baracuda /6. The pedals are worth something to someone building an F-body who wants a three or fourspeed. I dont know to much about the specs but I wouldnt call the trans weak! its just gear different and has a larger bearing retainer so you will need a bell housing for the OD fourspeed slantsix or small block... Not sure if this trans was ever used on a Big block, Im sure someone on here knows and can chime-in on more info! So yes its worth it for the right money, bought mine complete for $125... I see them selling complete starting around $250+

i would definetly pull it and sell it if you dont want to use it yourself. stuff like that is getting harder to find by the day.

I would definitely grab it and all of the parts to do a standard changeover on a car, including bellhousing, tranny and shifter, clutch, flywheel, all linkage and brackets, pedals, 4speed hump, shift boot and plate, driveshaft and steering column.
If it has a 2 barrel intake manifold and carb, i would grab that too.
If you don't want to use this stuff, it would be easy to sell and make a profit i'm sure.

If you do I need the part that goes on the frame rail that the Z bar ball stud goes on.

That trans is a 75.00 part.................. I passed on a few because they cant handle HP............ my 2 cents....But, if your using it behind a slant I would buy it for sure!!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwesome.....Next time you pass on a complete A833 OD with shifter & rods for $75.00 snatch it up Im sure someone would double your money on here!

On the slants and mild aplications the alum. OD trans is fine, and would be fun to drive around with. But the only downfall is that it doesn't hold up to hp very well. I've heard of people moding them so they do better... but for higher hp the cast iron case is the way to go.
One of these days I want to get the whole front clip ( steering, suspention, Etc. no sheet metal ) from one of those.... It would give me a huge differance in ride on my '56.

I have a 74 Scamp with this set up and love it.It's fun and cheap to drive.
I also have a small 4 barrel with header on it.BY the way automatics are
for wimps

There are enough folks running these behind 440's (with some on this forum) that would beg to differ on that on one. I have had one behind a 360 (~370 HP) for almost 40k miles now and have not babied it at all and it is holding up fine.

They certainly aren't as strong as the iron case A833's but for a hot small block or mild big block that you aren't planning on beating on constantly they are just fine.

I am sitting on a complete Diplomat, a 318 car. good runner, like 80K miles. was going to put it into a 56 Sierra wagon front clip and all, but alas health says no. complete car missing 2 bbl carb--$500 clean title. few miles away, Dayton, Oh. was an everyday driver until some jacka** threw a big rock through the back window, bought to be a donor, used for a while, sitting outside now going to heck. paul
