Birth of the Blue Missile

quick update,
I pulled the windshield and expected to have a bunch of repairs in the glass channel. Not a bit of rust and virgin paint.
I found some very cool high security door locks to install as well.
Andrew

WOW.............what a build. I like the idea with the dash. I've been thinking of doing some kind of a customized dash as well. You gave me some ideas. Thx.

I finally found your thread! Awesome!

But if you were going to do that much with the front end why did you even use a bumper?

BJK,
I dont understand the question. I like the look of the bumper flipped and the front air dam adds to the look. The Path for the fresh air is not very noticeable now with the car jacked up,When its down on the ground youll never see it unless you get down very low. Thanks for the compliment you guys aint seen nothing yet.

I was just saying it probably would have been easier and helped the aero more if you had just made the whole new front panel (omitting the bumper). But if you like the looks then that is probably why.

Andrew; keep up the good work, and keep the stories coming!:happy1:
We've got the popcorn popped and cold beers; just need something to read!

Captain,
Im in the process of ordering a bunch of parts and a welder, I really need to get this thing back on the ground. I did get a new set of door handles and a new steering wheel, and the new gas cap/filler assembly. Im waiting on the new side marker lights. The first welder I got came crushed by UPS, sorting through that mess and trying to get a different one off of Ebay.
More later
Andrew

OK I finally got the cable that allows me to download pics from my phone so here is the start.
Part of the plan for the car is to run an electronic 5 speed auto with a paddle shifter. The after market paddles are expensive and look bulky. My brother in law said he had a Mazda with a paddle shifter so thats what I went after.
I got a complete steering col from an RX8 and have made it one of ours.
First pic is of the 1/4" thick M shaped piece of 'Divinicell'
Then its a pic of it applied to the insert sitting in the wheel, and then one of it covered with leather.

Here are the pics of the new gas cap install. As much as I dont like Bondo there will have to be something done here because the whole thing puckered in 1/8" all around the patch.
Maybe Ill learn to work lead next.

This gets me closer to being ready for filler and epoxy primer.
These are handles off of a forerunner. I like the flush look on the high end cars so these are mine.
first couple of pics are the formed sheet metal and the handles mounted in them,
The next are of the cups or recesses for the handles then they are installed and finally primed. Yes they will need a LITTLE filler, no sheet metal warped, go figure

A quick up-date,
The new axles arrived and so did the posi, I have the posi installed in the pumpkin, and the axle tube cut down and re-assembled to A body length. The NASCAR style sway bar is on the way and so are the rear wheels and rims.
Still going round with the 4 link suppliers to get the system the way I want it. Then the final piece is the shocks.
Andrew

This is the one I ordered from DM Products $169 shipped

Whew!!! Awesome work there Andrew! I have to get some of my customers cars out of the way so I can get back to mine.

You definitely need to bring that to the Texas All Mopar event in Buda, even if it is not officially on the road yet. I'm going to have to come see it in person one of these days.

Les,
Its not even on the ground yet! Much less able to go anywhere.
You are always welcome to visit and I have not forgotten about your magnum grill, it talks to me whenever Im in the shop.

Andrew,

I just read this entire thread :)

Keep up the good work on the blue missile !

and .... and.... the rest of the story ....

First of all, thankyou to all who have read the entire story and left feedback.

The whole story is now through copyright, the testimony was done years ago. The copyright and trademark protection of the image of the Blue Missile (TM) and the name are in process.

The next step is to get the story made into a movie or mini-series, who couldn't use another MoPar based movie. You know "Fast times at Ridgmont high meets Deliverance"
I will post a Poll thread let me know.
So if any of you know any one in the industry, send it to them with my contact info.
I am already talking to a few as we speak.

I think your ideas are awesome. The door handles came out great,
cant wait to see the final project.

BJK,
I was organizing my pics and came across the pick of the air inlet at the front spoiler. I dont think I posted it yet, so here is the pic
Andrew

Yes it will be ducted, I have the sheet metal but have not had the time lately.
I still am waiting on parts to finish the axle transplant and get the car back down on the ground, which is at the top of the priority list.
