I hate frigin Wasps!

-
Around here the "bad boys" are the red wasps. They are the prison-yard bullies of the wasp world and they can not resist building a nest in the front door jam of any car you may need parts out of. I had an old escort on the edge of my property for about 10 years, never a wasp, but right next to it was a crown vic I was stripping for parts to use on my pick-up, no matter how many times I sprayed it or knocked the nests out, there was always a new one when I opened the doors or hood!! Maybe they are attracted to V8s, maybe they hate escorts as much as I do.

I was picking parts out a local U-pull-it here for my 360 that I was putting back together. I climb into the engine bay of some old ram-charger and as soon as I start to turn a wrench, I notice some wasps flying out from in the fender. I couldn't get out fast enough and got nailed a bunch. Needless to say, I moved onto the next small block I could find and let that one be.

If you get stung....immediately as possible put honey on the bite.....takes the sting out of it.
I use a squirty bottle with a mix of Inox, and petrol....a piece of wire holding a tightly wrapped rag soaked in the mix, and the rag is about 8" from the nozzle, and about 1 to 2" below the stream. Light the rag, and away ya go with a hell fire....like a flame thrower....the heat is really intense, so it burns their wings & leags off.
You can adjust the nozzle so as to make fire-balls or fire-stream.
I use it on green ants nests too.

My daughter ask if Billy is in the "real world" I said "Yes honey but I think he's more in his own little world"

Anyways I either killed them tonight or made them real real mad :profilel: my kid watched from the inside of my truck and I said "get ready to watch Daddy get stung and run around screaming like a little school girl" she nodded and laughed at the same time.

Sorry Roger I had to laugh picturing you running around screaming like a little school girl.

Wasps are mean little things. Bees are too. I got attacked by Yellowjackets a few days ago. Got stunk on my arm, on my chin and of all places, in my ear! Glad to find out that I wasnt allergic.

Our current car club president got stung a couple of years ago at our club summer picnic. Picked up his soda can, took a drink and didn't realize either a wasp or yellow jacket had crawled down inside. Nailed him on the inside of his mouth.
I check for new nests up under the eaves about once a month. Got some spray that shoots about 20 feet in a stream. Upsets their internal electrical system and knocks them down NOW.
Last summer we left a sliding glass door and screen open for the dog to come and go as he wanted. Came home from work and found wasps has started building a nest on the master bedroom ceiling. My wife was panicked, but I just put a big trash can under the nest, hit it with the spray and watched them fall right in the can. Knocked the nest down and that was that.

Mission accomplished I think all the little bastards are dead, went to the lake today none around in the morning when we left and none tonight.I will cut it down tomorrow after a not so gentle bash with a long stick.

Oh ya Stan thanks for the support[-X:toothy3:

I have found out, that if you leave the old nest, new ones will not build in that area. Something about seeing a dead hive makes them go elsewhere. I started leaving the nests and found it works great. Also the bees wont build in another nest.

I git stung about 4 weeks ago on top of my left hand, stung like hell for a few hours and a bump where the stinger was, I get stung every other year to keep my antibodies built up. My little brother moved here about 20 years ago from Illinois and got tagged, he got nailed on his shoulder and he said **** Mike!!! I am elegaic I grabbed a potato and headed to the truck and told him to cut this potato in half and hold it on the stinger, it took no more then 6 minutes to get to ER and they gave him a shot and a I.V. in the room.
He moved back to Illinois a couple years later.
I live on a hill with over 300 oaks on my property and we have them here.

one table spoon Lemon Joy dish soap to a gallon of water in a pump up sprayer and I spray my eaves and over hangs and porch down with it when summer begins will keep them from trying to build and does a dang good job of keeping other pests away, I know this works 8) I did not spray this year and I had a hornets nest make a home in my out door speakers I have hung on my eave on my back deck area , and a nest where my over head power supply run's to my meter box The cost is pennies and after a few rains I spray again, I spray my plants with it and let me say I guaranty it will keep bugs mosquitoes at a distances 8) and will not stain your siding

Ok ! last but not least :clock: 40 yards away from my house I have an old BBQ grill I keep standing 8) They love it and build one in it every year for me
I watch it with my binoculars and when the middle of the season is in I catch them on a cool night then with a cup full of gas I drench the hole hive 4 to 8 inch diameter get's killed eggs and all. If you have plant's around your house this will keep them from picking the area to gather. old school stuff and it work. The potato will amaze you if a child or you get stung :happy10:

Thanks for the tips, Mike! I have always used tobacco on stings, it works OK...I guess... still hurts like heck, I can't wait (lol) to try the potato! I'm gonna get some lemon joy this week and try it, I know it's late, but can't hurt, right?

I'm all over low-buck and old-school!!

A few years ago I took a bad fall and was injured. I had horrible joint pain in my ankles, legs, hips, arms, for years. one day last summer I was stung, on the leg, about 8 times by these huge wasps. The next day my foot swelled to the point I couldn't get my shoe on, headache, sweating. The next day the swelling went away and I havn't had any pain since. Pain free my brothers! MMG
Great post. I had some scaffolding laying around and I tripped on it. That got me mad so I kicked it and you guessed it, out came the wasps. One got me right on the ankle and the feeling was so strange I just stood there and let it do its thing. Now being a little on the old side and having been run over by a car, I can get a little stiff in the joints at times. Gotta tell you, I felt like a ten year old for about three weeks. I may try this again. Just gotta figure out how to get one sting, and not five hundred.

Keep a close eye on your GF for "side effects".. :-D

How would you like to get stung by one of these suckers. Worlds largest wasp species. The Tarantula Hawk Wasp.

Usually there black and yellow here, defiantly these guys were in the wrong hood "you know what I'm saying":toothy10:

We have a white and black hornets down here in the south.

Since the summer heat has been relentless I have been giving my dog a bath and fresh water everyday after work. I have a hose that I winds up on a hose reel. Day after day the same thing water dog wind up reel. Then one day I was pulling the hose off of the reel and got stung by a wasp on the hand. The little guy was all by himself on a very little nest on the hose reel. Got the spray and killed it. Just a matter of 24 hrs he had a nest and was protecting it. Stupid little sucker! He's dead now.
