My 14 year old son bought his first car with money he saved from birthdays and cutting grass. He bought a 67 dart post. The car was a rolling chassis with leaves moved in,8 3/4 rear, manuel steering,3.23 gear, 15x3.5 centerlines on the front and 15x10 progressive wheels on the rear. We picked up a 360,904 trans, and a disc brake front end for free. The car has a couple of rust spots and needs floor pans.

14yrs old???? Im jealous

That kid is gonna be the man @ his HS.

All I got on my birthday was a new lawnmower... how ironic

Posts are neat! How do you like this one? Same combo, 360/904. It was the first charity raffle car our club built back in 2007.

Father/son projects are great, my son and myself have been building and rebuilding his 73 Duster for about 5 years now. I hope you and your son have as great a time as we have had. It looks like you have good start on it already.

Me an my Dad don't like Father/Son projects because there is two of us and one car, our solution, I keep the Dart and he bought a Falcon:cheers: to keep us extra busy 'till they're done and satisfied once they are.

Thank god my first project was the Dodge!:bootysha:

Father/son projects are cool. Hell, Pop's 69 and I'm 38 and we have a Father/Son project going.

I wish I had that much to work with when I was his age. Can you give any secifics on the wheel & tire combo in back? Is that just a spring relocation but no minitub? What size tires are they? Love how they seem to fill up the rear wheelwells.

15x10 wheel with 4" backspacing. 295/50 tire. Had widing stock wheel tubs that were butchered. We will be putting a steel after market wheel tub,8 point roll cage with swing out side bars, frame connectors and going setup wheel opening for a 30" slick. I will put my 440 in when he goes to college and he can bracket race when he is not in school.

Very nice project you guys got going on! I'm 23 and work on my 68 cuda with my dad too. he is 57 I think....lol

Congratulations on having a cool Dad for sure
Count your blessings 8) and give him a pat on the back from us here

What's a Dad :-k I had many cool uncles :-D:love4:

i remember my father son project i had w/ my dad. it was back in 96, we built a 67 vw bug. i loved that car then i woke up, and found a mopar.........

I bought my 68 Dart when I was 14 too! What a life changing experience. My Dad wasn't into it and hated it, we had a few problems stemming from it. I think its great that you love your son enough to have this experience with him. The both of you will look back some day and really cherish these memories. Your son has shown some great character qualities by saving and buying something like this, on the other hand you have to be the coolest dad to allow him to branch out like this.

He made a much better choice than I did for his first car! At least I chose the right car for my second car :). Welcome him to the dart club for all of us here.

You have a fine young man there....spending his money wisely.
Cudos to both of you!
It looks like a relatively easy project.
Good luck and keep us informed.
That means lots of pics!

Destin's birthday was Saturday and we him some cool stuff for his car. We got him a Hemi scoop, Turbo Action shifter, and some dog dish hub caps. He has also purchased the parts to put his engine back together and all of the front end parts.Car is headed to a friends house to put in frame connectors, roll cage and wheel tubs. Pics to come shortly.

Mom never remarried so I fell in the chebby crowd. When I got tired of getting beat by the damn Duster's, I switched to Mopar. Never had a son but am doing a 69 Dart w/340 and plan on leaving it to my grandson. Unless he switches to Ricer's.

Father/Son projects are the greatest ever.

Cut out floor, made frame connectors from 2x3and cut out tubs.

looks great.your kid will always remember this day. I will never forget the time me and my dad built our first motor. It was a dual port 1600cc vw. Here it is 15 years later, and I still wish I had that car. We did everything toether on it from the motor to the interior. How I would love to do it again. Unfortunately my dad has moved on to wood working, and hates cars now. He has been working in dealerships for 40+ years and won't touch a car after work. It's a shame the knowledge he has is invaluable.

Started stripping the 4 different colors off of the car and stripping down to metal. Replaced rusted spots with new metal and sealed with epoxy.Working on trunk gutters and quarters.
