Looking into getting a new pair of shoes for work. (I'm a dealer tech.)

Wore some old running shoes this summer but they were trashed and offer absolutely no protection whatsoever. Switched off and on with a pair of low-top Doc Martens but they're starting to get pretty beat too. Have a pair of Timbo Pro boots for colder months but they're kinda clunky - comfortable but clunky.

Went to Sears today and tried on both the Dewalt 'Wrench' shoe and the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Timberland-Mens-Mudsill-Steel-Oxford/dp/B000XF2PLE/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1"]Amazon.com: Timberland Pro Men's Mudsill Low Steel Toe Oxford: Shoes@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41YMO4JPUGL.@@AMEPARAM@@41YMO4JPUGL[/ame]. Both fit well but the Dewalt was much more comfortable right out of the box. The Dewalt looks a little cheaper than the Timbo but the reviews on Amazon for the Timbo say they tend to wear out where the steel toe meets the seams. Guys love 'em but perhaps they're not that durable. Could not find any reviews on the Dewalts.

Anyone have any experience with either of these? Any input is appreciated, I desperately need new shoes.

Thanks,

- Greg

I've been on my feet for 30+ yrs. as a dealer tech and I love my Timberland Pro's. Just a word of advice: buy `em a 1/2 size larger and put in a pair of Dr. Schole's Gel Inserts. And nice thick-soled cotton socks....

Ahhhh......

Walmart tennis shoe looking, but a lot of leather, breathe; steel toes. $33, need new every year.

I have to have a decent set of steel toe boots that have plenty of cushion in the bottom, doesnt really matter the brand, steel toe is my main choice, you can always add in inserts. Saved my toes a few times

I can't wear any shoes other than Size 12 Chuck Taylor All Stars, anything else hurts the hell out of my feet. I did luck out on a pair of steel toe work boots made by Chinook.

I got them at the local "everything store" called Fred Meyer on sale for $60.

Do you need the insoles with the Converse shoes? I think they could use more support, however I do like the fact that they are light.

I try and get the lowest priced steel toes I can because I do alot of painting and bodywork and the boots get trashed with wet sanding sludge, bondo, dust, thinner and paint.:angry7:And they have to be waterproof.I hate soaked feet at the end of the day, especially in the winter.lol
But I do have a pair of Timbs and they are very comfortable !

i tried on a pair of redwing in the past. fit my foot great but when i walked the things were like walking with cement on the bottom of the boot. hard as hell. would have beat the crap out of my joints...

the best i have found so far are the timberland pros. they feel broke in from the second you put them on. nice and cushioned. i walk a lot at work and my joinds feel great at the end of the day..

Thanks for the input guys.

I know Red Wings/Justin are good boots but I'm looking for something a little less bulky, more like a steel toed sneaker like the ones I linked to.
Unfortunately, Chuck T's ain't gonna cut it for me though.

John, which Timbo Pros do you have? I have these. Don't really need them unless it's cold and snowy out though. I'm constantly scuffing sill plates getting in and out of cars with these on.

Was hoping someone out there had worn the Dewalts?

i wear merrell world passport slip ons every day super light super comfortable best all around shoe i work mechanical maintenance at a nuclear plant here in tennessee and i estmate walking atleast 5 miles a day and they hold up great i do everything in them weld, cut, climb i love them i strongly suggest them trust me i know where you are coming from i was a service tech at a nissan dealer for years and would go through sneakers seasonally i wish i had discovered the merrells then.

up here in canada we have Marks Work Warehouse.

I use steel toe boots 24-7. I dont own anything else.

I work in a machine shop and i am also a dairy farmer. I find the manure from the cows eat boots like crazy. They disintegrate really quick.
I buy my boots from Marks because i am told they will replace them if something is wrong with them. I have yet to have a problem but they said if i have a boot blow out. They will replace them (even covered in manure) for free.

So i am really beating the crap out of the current steel toe boot and have yet to have a problem. 6 months is usually the replacement time frame. I am currently using a Dakota Quad comfort. 6" steel toe work boot, i do not find them that comfortable so i added in a gel insert and it helped a bit.

Dr. Scholls is by far the best all around shoe I have ever bought, I walked 10-12 miles a night on an assembly line job at GM. I would wear them to work new right out of the box and after 3 months put the Dr. Scholls gel inserts in em and go another 3 months, just under $30 a pair at Walmart.

Redwing shoes/boots are the best! spent 10 years working at a ferd assembly plant and wore tennis shoes at first, they never lasted very long and my feet hurt everyday! I bought a pair of redwings and my feet never hurt again! they where/are awesome! made in the USA too! they make many different kinds and styles not just boots. find your local store and check em out!

only the high end red wings are made in the U S A, the rest are made in china just like doc martin and chuck taylers, sucks dont it, I still like my doc's though, not as good as when they were made in england but still comfortable

I shop at Marks work wearhouse too just like "dodgedifferent2" Mine are the Dakota T-max around $100. I was in a bike accident years ago and f'd my left foot up bad, pretty much wore dakotas 24-7 for a couple years and were pretty good. They have the rubberized covered steel toe cap. If I had a choice, I would pick a line of work where I could wear sandals all day long!!

Redwings are nice as already stated. But for a bit cheaper and still a really good boot/shoe, take a look at Wolverine Durashocks.

I would go with the Timberlands. Since you already have your other Timberlands and you like them I would think it would be a pretty safe bet. I have never seen anyone with dewalts. Everyone at my dealer either has Timberland pros or Red wings. I wear Timberlands because the Red wings seem to harsh to me.
