Well I got an e mail today from our own lovely Hott chickie powdercoater Mrs Leanna from phoenix specialty coatings asking If my dad got his air cleaner yet???? so I call over to Grandiddy's house and asked him if he had gotten any packages today and he say's" i got this kewl cake cover and the sweetest note from some chick from tennesee...so I go over there and sure enough he's taken the air cleaner lid from leanna and used it to cover the chocolate cake my mom(his ex wife) made for him and racheal...so I scored a piece of cake but he won't let me or racheal read the note????? wtf??? so Good Chickie alert anyway!!!! what'd tha dang note say????

Curtis, I figured your dad would be another version of you! :-D The note said something to the effect that I hoped he enjoys his gift, and if he was anything like you then I loved him already.

In hindsight, I don't think I'd show it to anybody either. LMAO!!

But this thread goes well beyond any Good Chickie Alert. This air cleaner lid was a collaboration between FABO members who need and deserve to be recognized.

Bargeahead donated the air cleaner lid for a benefit auction for 7071GTReg, shipped it here and took care of the bill to get it restored ... Bamacuda donated the fabulous metal decal that just made the whole job pop ... and Curtis's dad has a pretty new chrome cake tin now. :-D

And After (without the chocolate cake -- Waggin has to post those lol):

I can't say enough about the metal Commando decal bamacuda David had made up. If anyone is in the market for a replacement, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these ... sharp, easy to work with and very attractive. I think he was letting them go at the Nationals for $30/ea.

Thanks guys! It could've have happened without all of you.

HOLY SHINE-A-ROONIE!!!!!

Is that really powder coated or re-chromed??? That looks freakin' awesome!!!! Geeze, I need to get you to coat my parts!

Wylde1.

Thanks Wylde1! Yes, that's my Super Chrome powder. I was never really a big fan of it for a variety of reasons but drastically changed the application technique awhile back. I like the results now.

Nice job Leanna! And kudos to Bargeahead and Bamacuda for their contributions. Now Curtis,s dad has a lid and can eat his cake too!LOL:cheers:

P.S:wave:Curtis,Haelee says Hi unkie Waggs!:toothy10:

Leanna, that looks great in the photo. Compared to real chrome, how well would you say this compares in clarity/reflectability?

In all honesty, Super Chrome was never one of my favorite powders to work with. I've been playing with my technique recently though and am now pretty happy with my results. It's a lot closer to looking like chrome now than I used to be able to get it.

As far as clarity and reflectability go, it looks great when it's by itself visually on the vehicle; in this case I believe it's going to be the only "chrome" on Curtis's dad's motor -- or his kitchen counter LOL -- so it will look stellar, especially from a couple feet back.

You wouldn't want to use it on your bumperettes mounted to your real chrome bumper though -- you can tell at a glance it's not the same stuff. As long as it's not close to real chrome, I recommend it highly.

Whoops, forgot my manners. :-D Thank you all for the great compliments!

wow never heard of chrome power coating.Lookssss like Leana may get something from me this winter.Thats sweet.

Hard to believe it isn't chrome. Great job Leanna. How did you get that 273 sticker on so perfect? Mike

Thanks Mike!

Anyone who's installed an air cleaner decal knows it's not easy. I'd love to take the credit for this but it really lies in bamacuda's quality decal. It's perfectly curved, made out of metal and has 3M adhesive built in. All I really had to do was choose the best face forward on the air cleaner, hold the two edges together, line it up with the indentation where the lettering was centered and lay it on there. I pressed it from the center outwards to remove any trapped air but there really wasn't any. It was a joy to work with.

Leanna, you seriously rock, unbelievable skills, you should be very proud. As a fellow small business owner I know how hard you have to work to keep a business alive in this economy and your dedication shows.

Chrome Cake Cover......:sign5:

Great job on that Leanna! And nice efforts all around from Bargeahead and Bamacuda in getting Waggs some chocolate cake. :toothy10:

Thanks for the compliments on the "decal". As Leanna said, these are not the mylar stickers you see for $10 at the swap meets. This is correct aircraft aluminum sheet, laser cut to exact size, then printed by a shop that prints labels for industrial engines/motors. They also apply the 3M super high heat adhesive. I have a handful left, and $ 30 quoted by Leanna is the correct price. The only thing that I would say about them is that the red color has a glow as the aluminum seems to reflect back through it. It seems brighter red than the original, but as you can see in the photo, looks great! I am a commando 273 fan and these were a long time in the making.

Another member told me a great trick for installing the new , repro foil decals...just spray the decal area with plain water, apply the decal. The water gives you plenty of time to slide it around to line it up perfectly. After it drys, the decal stays put permanently.

Here's mine....

65Val, that was my plan with this one too, with the addition of a little dish soap (the soap lets the sticker slide easier than plain water) but it wasn't needed.
