Hey All:

What are the best flowing big block heads? I'm talking aftermarket heads rather than factory. I also mean something generally available and useable rather than full-out race unobtainium type stuff.

Thanks!

Steve

Hard to beat the Victor Max Wedge head.

Will they flow like B1's or Predators... no.

Still capable of putting out 800+ hp

Need to figure out your HP goals/budget and make a selection based up that. Ported RPM and stealths can get in the 700's for HP if everything else is right.

Rob, is there a decent out of the box head for a "moderate" 451 build? I would like some alloy heads, but I don't want to end up spending 3K on heads including making them work. Thanks.

predators then B1 very capable heads... probably has more potential than 99.9% of all racers will ever use..
on a more normal level indy EZ heads or edelbrock victors wich come in diferent levels of powerpotential

HP level makes all the difference.

RPMs and stealths work good for 550-600 and less without much work.

You'll still be in them at least 2K by the time you get them set for a 600 lift solid cam and flowing decent.

If you can find a set the "F" casting 906 is suppose to be the best flowing stock head. The Super Stock/Stock Eliminator guys are always looking for them.

I scrapped two sets of 906s with the F casting and two sets of 346 heads about two months ago. I could not give them away and I tried.

Steve, for the coin i'd say the Indy EZs, they flow right around 290 OOTB & can be opened up to a max port window quit easy & then they will flow 320+ with no other work, thats a bolt-on, now indy had a special way back for 1800.00 bucks, but that was a good 4-5 yrs. ago, it came with heads, pushrods, head gaskets if i'm not mistaken, these heads OOTB with the small window will support 600-650 easy, i've heard good things about the stealths for the $$$, it all depends on what HP level your seeking, if its around 500-550, OOTB eddys/stealths will support that.

When I was doing my engine we did flow conpairasions.I had the eddys victors 440 source indy and the 440sr indys.I kept the 440sr indys.they flowed the best with finished port work (not fully ported). If I had to do it over again I would use the eddys or the 440 source heads.I still have the victor eddys and sorry thet I sold the 440 source heads.I am talking about out of the box heads with a little work as we know they all need. Mark

What are you expecting them to do? You have 440Source up to Predators... Need MUCH more info on what you want to use them on/for.

Should have tried here

I did.....several times in fact. I have two standard steel 383/400 cranks that will meet the same fate unless somebody wants um. One of them will RUN standard, too.

The Pro Comps are copied off the Victors. The Victors are a killer head, but had a few issues with geometry and getting rockers to work. I've heard little good about the Pro Comps but I freely admit I have never held a set or worked on one.

What you should have asked is-What is the best head for my combo.
Unless you are going to start your build around the head.

So you scrapped them, instead of selling at a lower price to help a member out?To me,thats not helping anybody.JMO.:angry7:

I saw his post. He acutally had make offer on them and was basically begging someone to buy them. Problem with heads is shipping them is a bear.

Scott, I made post after post begginf people to take them. No one ever offered. If begging to GIVE stuff away ain't helpin then I don't know what else to do. I've given lots of things away here for free that cost me both to purchase AND ship. sorry that's not good enough to live up to your expectations......not that I was ever trying.

I never asked you to live up to my expectations?Just if you had lowered your prices or offered for free(pay shipping)I,m sure somebody would,ve grabbed them before going for scrap weight.Maybe it was the time of year when nobody had money? They were yours and you can do as you please,I just hate to see wanted parts go for scrap.:sign11:

Well I hated scrappin um too, but I needed money at the time. i said in my posts I was gonna scrap um if I didn't get offers. That meant i would have taken SCRAP PRICES but nobody offered. I said "make offer". Can't be any more clear than that.

i used ez heads with very little work done.
pump gas motor.
here's my dyno sheet

Id like to mention the mopar max wedge stage vi. Not the best ootb but great potential there to make 800 h.p. They can flow in the 390+cfm range on the intake.Definitely not cheap either but there are plenty of intakes and spacers these days for a B stroker and a few for an RB max wedge. The stage vi is raised port design,so spacers are offered from mopar to adapt B intakes onto them as well as adapting rb intakes onto rb blocks. That opens up lots of intakes and carb flanges.
