Master cylinder puking fluid

Krabysniper,

Black silicone,jb-weld....Bad idea.Brake fluid will eat anything,including black silicone & jb-weld.
If you were to get silicon in your brake system you would have more problems then you have now.

You and 340_Scamp are both wrong. I don't mince words so don't take offense, but brake fluid does not, nor did it "eat thru anything" nor did it disolve, soften or in any way affect the silicone. Yes, it is good at ruining paint, of that we ALL know, but as far as it dissolving the silicone, nope. My repair lasted thru the fall till I put the car away, I also made certain not to put so much on there that it was spooging into the reservoir side, JUST enough to seal the edge of the MC along the edge's where it was pitted. I also know for fact that JB Weld will stand up to brake fluid just fine, tested my theory first (as I did with the silicone) by putting a lump of cured JB into a jar of brake fluid, and letting it sit there. Wanna know what happened to it?? Nothing, just a chunk of JB sitting their doing nothing. Still as solid as when I dropped it in. I apreciate the input, don't get me wrong, just letting you know that you are very mistaken in your assumptions. :headbang:

Cudasrule (no they don't, but thats just my opinion, LOL) No, the cap seal was brand new and was fine, it was the edge of the master cylinder that the seal was SUPPOSED to seal against, pitted like you would not believe, if it hadn't have been for how cheap it was in the first place (I think I paid less than $20) I would have taken it back and jammed it up someones crapper, but as it stands I was able to solve the problem myself and save myself the headache of taking it off and replacing it AGAIN. I hate doing that with anything.

As far as welding on a cast master cylinder housing 340_Scamp, you most obviously are not a welder. That would be a really BAD BAD thing to do to it. I am/have/was a welder by trade, you cannot weld on thing cast steel and expect it to hold up, or not warp, let alone the fact that the heat would destroy the seals in the MC putting me right back to square one, and the risk of getting weld spatter inside is high and one tiny grain of spatter would be just as bad if not worse than a chunk of silicone floating around in there.

No, I will stick with my repair. I am happy with it, it works, no more leaking brake fluid and the car will eject you thru the windshield if I stomp on the brakes and your not wearing a seat belt. Good enough for me.

I do wish to thank EVERYONE for their input, right, wrong or indiffrent, it was all very helpful in the search for a solid working answer to the problem. :happy4:
