I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I bought a Harbor Freight 4" grinder and I went at my floorboards for about 10 minutes and the grinder stopped working. It wont turn on at all now. Im kinda really disappointed with my investment of 20$. I was really expecting it to last a while. Ive heard some pretty good stuff about Harbor Freight and some bad stuff too. Any opinions here? I still will need a grinder in the future

As a rule of thumb, buy 2 or go get a good tool elsewhere [-X

i honestly have never really had a problem with there air tools if you buy the "expensive" ones that they offer you are ussually ok but i am a technician and of course have snap on mac etc at work for profesional use but my tool box at home is full of heighbor frieght..at the store buy my house anyways for like 10 bucks they offer like a 3 year replacement plan on most of there air and electric powered tools i useualy get that... but other then that i have some heighborfrieght air tools that i have use for years and most played a big part in building my car!! but if you have not had it that long i would take it back they are general pretty good about that.. and maybe even ask about that replacement plan

It's a shot in the dark sometimes. If I ever had problems I just exchange or return it. They're great about that.

I have one of them grinders I use it just to grind tires (oval track car), been using it for two years it get pretty hot you need gloves but it hasn't given up yet.

Thanks guys! I think I will go back and hash out the extra 10 bucks for the 3 year warranty. Sounds awesome. I just will be needing the grinder to do future bodywork and otherwise little things.

yeah its 10 buck even if the tool only cost you ten bucks it saves in teh future..and from what i understand they just swap it out not like other places where they have to send it in for repair just to tell you it was from abuse and you have to pay for it any way :snakeman: bastards

too many companies like that nowadays. why people dont wanna be consumers anymore

and i like how they call it abuse... i think putting 130 psi to a tool and using it break rusted bolts loose is abuse..but isnt that what there made for??

Go to Home Depot and buy a Ryobi for $29.99 I have had it for years with no issues.

We bought a 7" grinder from them with the warranty, it lasted about a week. I took it apart and found plastic gear that was driven by a metal gear. The plastic one was destroyed.
They did give us another one but the same thing happened.
Have lots of their air tools and have had no problems with them.

I get their 4-1/2" Drill master angle grinders and run the mortal hell out of them, usually about $12.... Did that one come with 2-little brushes with springs on the end of them??? If it did, change those and see if it works...

thats what i did because we didnt have a harbor freight near us.

when they opened one up i got a $9.99 palm sander and that thing sands its A$$ off. but the 6" bench grinder...well thats another story :disgust:.

its hit or miss i guess and you sometimes really do get what you pay for.

pawn shops over price their stuff but if your good at haggling then you can get a good deal, make sure its been on the shelf for a while.

Usually tools are worn out is why their in the pawn shop to begin with, if the tools are worth a crap their usually picked back up by the person who pawned them.. Pawn shops around here want NEW price for worn out tools...

The pawnshops by me usually zip-tie the cases closed so you hardly ever get to see what you are buying

If changein' the brushes donesnt fix it, or thay won't give your money back or exchange it, I'd get the 4-1/2" drill master.. I got one at christmas and it ran up until last week, you know the hell I put mine through... Some of their stuff is great and some of it's junk, just like with craftsman and their older 3/8 drive ratchets, I have a box full of them busted ratchets but the other craftsman stuff I have is good stuff...
