Well I have a question from someone that I am sure knows here. I know in 1956 Chrysler came out with 12volt in the 300B, but did their other models still have 6volt until they were all converted to 12volt in 1957? I don't know. Thanks.

As far as I know all the MOPAR line was converted to 12V in 56 except some of the larger light and medium duty trucks that didn't get converted until 57 unless it was done at a dealer. I have owned 3 56 Dodges and all were 12V and the 55 plymouth I owned was 6V. My father's 2 ton dump was a 57 and was 6V...

I have a reference book here that says that all of the Chrysler, Plymouth, & Dodge car lines were converted to 12 volt for the 1956 model year.

my family car was a 49 plymouth. i bought it off my mom as my first car, but, she had made several conversions, one of which was that she put a 8 volt boat battery in instead of doing a full 12 volt conversion. be warned: it will not charge like a 12 volt, you have to charge it as a sixer. takes longer, but if you do it as a twelve it'll discharge battery. i know this because i drove that thing with dead generator brushes from no. cal to houston and had to charge the battery at truck stops every night.
