Anyone know the different weight for rear ends? I was thinking 8 1/4 rear but I read that they are heavier than a 8 3/4. correct? What about dana rears?

Don't know about a 8 1/4 never had one but a dana weights about 50 pounds more then a 8 3/4.....

Can anyone confirm if an 8 1/4 is indeed heavier than an 8 3/4? I'll narrow it down to the weights of rears from 70's A bodies if it makes a difference... :salute:

I dont know for sure....But ..... I just helped my buddy change out his 8 1/4 to an 8 3/4 for his 70 charger, and the 8 1/4 seemed MUCH heavier then the 8 3/4. Like I said , i dont know for sure but it felt like 50 to 60 pounds. Hope this helps.

Thanks...I think I'll trust you since you were lifting... I'm still trying to search for complete weights and I'll probably post them since it might help someone to decide...

The weight of a 8.75 is nothing compared to a 8.25.The 8.75 housing weights about 25lbs,the center sections is about 60-80lbs.The 8.75 is the lightest of all diffs.A dana 60 like mine will weight in at about 300lbs+,as i have lifted a complete unit to put in a truck for transporting by my self, training at the gym for 4-6 hours is easier, mrmopartech

Dana weighs alot more than the others. I recently did an 8.25 to 8.75 swap. Never weighed both of them, but the 8.25 did feel a little heavier. I don't think the difference was too much though...

hi, I looked up the weights between my 8 3/4 rear end versus dana 60.
8 3/4 banjo housing is 65 # empty. the dana 60 housing, 90 # empty.
after assembling dana 60 in car, weighed car, gained 32 # total weight.
no light weight parts either,
