who has used the b&m starshifter? what are your thoughts on this shifter.i had a brand new one given to me. i dont want to put it in and find out it dont work for crap.

Have you read the description onthe B&M site?

http://www.bmracing.com/PRODUCTS/Performance-Automatic-Shifters/StarShifter

It's pretty much two shifters in one. Works as a standard detent shifter normally and then as a ratchet shifter when you pull a lever. It also has a reverse lockout that makes it NHRA legal in case you want to blast it down the track. As long as it's in good condition and complete, I'd use it. Plus it looks cool like a four speed. B&M makes good stuff.

it is brand new.i was the first one to open the box all the parts are still in the bag hell the sticker is sill on the crome cover

what im worried about is.when i have it in ratchet mode and bang the gears if i shift it again will it stay in drive or will it go into 1st?

Cool. It's a good shifter. I think you will like it. I've never had one personally, but I knew a friend in high school a bigillion years ago who did. It worked well.

Now, THAT I don't know. You will just have to get it out and look at it to see. I THINK that it stays in the ratchet mode until YOU take it out....but I honestly don't remember for sure.

Had one a million years ago B.C. Worked like a charm. I'm old so forgive me, but IIRC once it's in ratchet mode, it stays that way until you lift the triger and pull it out.

Hi Dave,

i had one in a european Ford where i put a shivvy SB in. If i used the ratchet mode only upshifts were possible, usually then it was in D and stayed there. No downshifts possible in ratchet mode (before you could enter ratchet mode you had to be in first gear). Nice feature for the strip.

I'm wondering about this shifter as well because it seems to be priced nicely. I've read about people having issues with aftermarket shifters on Mopars not having enough travel to properly engage Park, has anyone here had this issue with a Starshifter?
