As I was breaking down the engine to paint it. When I took the oil pump off I discovered that it was broken The piece that slides into the block was broken off inside. The oil pump is two pieces, is there any way to just buy the piece that meets the block and slides inside.

No you need to buy a new complete pump. As an example Hughes has Melling pumps on for 62$. Recommend replaceing the drive shaft at the same time.

Originally it had a Melling M-63HP, High Pressure oil pump. I am thinking of ording the High Volume, but dont understand why it is so much cheeper if it pumps 25% more oil.

I see that Hughes is taking over the price rise that once was exclusive to Mopar Performance, wonderful :)

cudachick, i'm sure that the bb's don't need the pick-up welded on. sixxer, with the high volume make sure you have a big enough pan for the oil it wil pump.

The welded pickup to the pump is a VERY good chevy thing, they are pressed in and will fall out. Some builders drill and put a set screw in them and then they suck air. We know what that does. Pipe thread pickups just plain work.
