Lakewook vs. Quiktime bellhousings

-
no experience with Early A's but my quicktime bell fit good in my 70 dart when mocked up. I have read of the quicktime bells fitting better than lakewood...

Lakewood is 0 and 0 with me, x3

Mine was a 340, A833 in my Landcruiser. out of true

2. Buddy's was Chev SB in Jeep, Ford toploader 4 speed. Out of true

3. Buddy's was Buick V6 in CJ-5, pattern was rotated!!! on face of bell, made transfer case hang down!!!

I put the Lakewood in my 73 D.S with a 340,fit was ok but had to customize the bracket on the side of case for my Z-bar ball.Oh and had fun getting the fork on,the side hole is tiny, but got it on.:snakeman:

If the Lakewood cost a hundred bucks, then maybe. They don't, so it's Quicktime, hands down.

You telling me a QuickTime is a hundred bucks?I don,t think so,but they are smaller so should fit the early A better.

Oh no frog, no. Quicktime's don't cost a hundred bucks. Neither do Lakewoods. I rather lamely was trying to say if the Lakewood was a bunch cheaper, I would deal with the fit issues. Off the top of my head I seam to remember the Quicktime being a little spendier than the Lakewood, but not by a huge amount. Having worked with both, I am really impressed by the Quicktime units and given the choice, that is what I will use from here on out.
Sorry. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

Quicktime definitly fits better, I have run both on my Dart. With either bell the body seem needs to be peened over or cut out. The clutch bell crank pivit on the quicktime needs some serious mods to keep from flexing, had to make my own bracket for the ball and weld a pease of angle steal in from the starter boss back too the bell to stop the flexing, other than that it is alot better bell than the lakewood, My opinion!

You didn,t ruffle any feathers until the..No frog No comment. For one I don,t speak french, never have and never will.I guess you,ve never been to Canada, you,d realize not all Canadians speak french(mostly just in Quebec,Canada)So I guess a frog off is in order.

Oh crap! I didn't even realize you were in Canadia when I said the frog thing.
It's something a boss use to say to me all the time and it stuck. Guess I'm knee deep in it now.:-D

I have a Lakewood in my 66. I had not issues with the bell clearing although I pinched the firewall seams anyways.

I'd still go with the Quicktime if it were me. They didn't exist when I got my Lakewood.

Just curious why do you feel this way if you had luck with the Lakewood. It seems that the quick time is more money. Thanks.

the Quicktime by far is the nicer of the two, however a little pricey, but the quality is awsome,

My exprience is with a 5-speed with hydraulic clutch. I can't answer for a 833 and z-bar with the Lakewood.

Seems the Quicktime can be easily optioned for just about any transmission you choose. GM or Viper T56, tremec tko, T5, 4L60E, etc. Plus I bet they are lighter as well. Really pricey which is a bummer.

We had a lakewood in a 65 A and the thing had about 10 mounting holes around the edge that we didnt use, did they use to make them dual pattern or something? Hung kinda low too. It was a while ago and I remember it being pretty heavy too.

Did my first Quicktime recently too.

Not impressed. No starter support, relies on starter being bolted in, no nose support, and still needed grinding to fit.

It was also .014" off as well. 5.7 hemi with TKO600.

al those holes you didnt use,,,they are to keep it bolted together in case of a clutch blowing apart,,thats the difference between a bell housing and a scatter shield,,,

the lake wood was not designed to fit an early A,, there are problems with Z bar fitment,, i ran one years ago,, and had to alter and make Z bar brackets,, not saying it cant be done,,,

i use a ANSEN scatter shield,, they were made back in the cay for N H R A & A H R A and made to fit the early A,,, but very hard to find thses days ,,most people that have them dont know what they have,,,

the quick time looks like it would fit with out problems,, i have the first QUICK TIME small block scatter shield new in a box, with the starter cone,,,betwen life and work,,i dont think ill ever get to a 5 speed,,the tremec requires to much hacking of the early A,, and the Mc loUD trany will probably never come to life,,, so im considering selling the QUICK TIME

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm needing to pull my tranny to check some things out and was thinking of putting one in when going back in. I might just buy a more street friendly clutch disk for now and work out the the bugs in the thing(whole car) then some time later once I start trying to tar it up do something different.

Just a FYI. Quick Time is just about ready with a housing for the slant six. Trans options will be Mopar 3 and 4 speed, also the T-5.

Did the quicktime housing to fit a slant motor ever come to be?
and was it made to take the larger 130 tooth flywheel or the slant 122 tooth?

thanks

I forgot that I did this thread. Well, I'm finally back working on it. Pulled the trans and now I've just ordered the Lakewood bellhousing. I will post pictures of getting in there, I'm going to try and use some of the Brewers conversion stuff for the 10.5 clutch stuff to make this work. Also noticed that it looks like Lakewood and quicktime are owned by the same people now?

I have one with the block protector plate & it's SFI approved.....nice piece :glasses7:

I have a Lakewood in the Barracuda now behind the 440. It actually fit really well. I had to massage the floor some in the center and both sides, but I was suprised how well it fit.

However, I will be running a Quicktime when I switch from the 833 to my T56.
