Read somewhere that you could spend about $2500 and do all the wrenchin' yourself and get in the 12's. Any truth to that? Would LOVE to see a parts list for that!

Normally aspired, I would have to say not likely. A lot would depend on the amount of work you could do yourself (Head work would be critical), and the weight of the car.
With power adders, definetley possible. My 66 Valiant has already gone low 13's, and the whole car was built for about $1500, including buying the car. I now have about $2,000 in it. There is still a lot more in the car. Last Saturday, I made a 1/4mile pass that was.
