About ten years or so ago Mopar Performance released a book of How to build a Super Stock Hemi A body or something along those lines. Does anyboby know what I'm talking about, have one for sale or know where I could find one.

yes..they did offered one of their books on the SS/AA cars...or now SS/AH

probably be the only thing anyone can afford in relation to those cars...

The book is/was called "How to Build a SS/AA car"---I have it---still has alot of good info BUT be warned----in one of the first pages they tell you flat-out building a SS/AA (H) car is expensive! With a 50-60k pricetag on the engine alone, it's not to be taken lightly.........

That book is simular to the Direct Connection Racing manual they published in the late
70's early 80's. Lots of good info in there. I've had mine since I was a teenager.

I guess I'm looking more for the technical part of how to put a hemi into an A body and buy that I mean the engine compartment, firewall mods, special parts ect. I already have a complete big block car and all the goodies that go with it minus a Hemi. I dont plan on building a car to doing battle with the Bartons and Warfish lol, I'm just interested in the idea of putting a crate motor in that bad boy.
I'm more or less dreaming but what the hell, maybe some day, it cant hurt to look into it, I'm not talking about butchering my car I would never do that.

At least you're smart enough to ask. Yes there is a book of that nature you mentioned. I have one for several cars put out by Jim Schild i think is the name. As a matter of fact, when you buy one, when ever there is an update then you will recieve a notice of that update to bring you up to speed. I met the guy at MMW a few yrs ago and he is very knowledgeable. Let me run in and get that info for you. I wont ever sell ya mine but i'll get the info so you can order you one. It gives all the info even down to the sledge hammer mod to the fenderwell so as to incorperate and allow for the elephant. I'll be right back. I dont do this for everyone but you are a FABO member. Are ya building one. I have a disc that shows it all....the right way that i think i can copy and send to ya. Just one of my dream cars. Hang on............Here ya go. The guys name is Jim Schild assisted by Larry Griffith. This is the real deal and you can email him at jschild@htc.net to contact him. Let me know how ya do. I have two of the 68 270's setting out in the field just knowing that someday i will acquire me a hemi to build a SS A body. I guess we all have a dream or two. This is just one of my many. I would sell one of the 68's. I also have the rear wheel well templates for cutting em the correct way per Hurst.

Smallblock I would love to have a copy of that disk, that would be too cool. Just Pm your address and I will will send you the money and a Christmas card to cover your effort and expenses. Thanks alot!!

I've built 2, working on a third & helping "inkjunkie" with his (possible) HemiDart. Lots of fun, (for me) easier to do than a wedge motor, and truth be told, not that much specialized parts necessary, especially if you already have a big-block in the car.
Assuming you're using a motorplate, all you really need to do is space the K-member, move the master cylinder & hammer away at the passenger inner fenderpanel like the factory did. On my cars I was even able to use the same throttle cable! Radiator is dependent on how much hp you're making. I WOULD opt for custom headers though as the Hookers may need just too much tweaking for your liking.
Now if you're trying to do clone, THAT will take some time & dollars as some of the oddball parts aren't readily availible or are expensive. Of course if you can do alot of the work yourself it's faaaar cheaper.

Spacing the k member and modifying the the passenger side shock tower is precisley what I want to see. Also you assumed I was going to use a motor plate. I have started to read up on that. Can you just use motor mounts and maybe a torque strap or is a motor plate the only way to go. Whats the pros and cons.

Well, a motor & midplate set-up will eliminate ANY torque-over but some feel the engine vibration is too much for a street car, I disagree. With the motorplate between the block & water pump you have to adjust for pulley alignment unless you use an electric waterpump. The thing I really like is the engine is independent of the K-member/front suspension so you could yank the K-member out if you have to & not worry about the engine. The motor plate will allow you to eliminate the engine mounts on the K-member & allow you to trim up the steering box mount & reinforce it so as to allow you more room for headers.
If you go to the "racer's Forum" section & look up the thread about deleting heater boxes, you'll see "Inkjunkie's" car in there---mine is done the same way and you'll get an idea of just how I did it & how much room you can gain......

I think this will give you a better understanding of most if not all of the technical stuff if your gona do it as correct as you can.
