How Does The Heater/AC Controller Mount?

I was wondering how the Heater/AC controller mounts on a '68 Dart. Clip nuts would be the logical answer, but I can't find any that thick. Before I install it with screws and nuts, can anyone tell me how the factory did it?

The trim piece has two studs on the back which go through the dash frame, the heater control mounts to the trim from behind with two nuts.
 
I'm still confused, this is what I have to work with. The holes don't line up with the trim piece. I bought this car with the dash apart. So, when you unbolt the heater/radio panel from the dash, the heater/AC controls come with it?

Thats probably the wrong hvac control for that trim piece, or could be the wrong trim for the dash.
