Dang! Another freaking kidney stone

-
PAIN

Some of you know this story already, so I won't go into it, but about 11 years ago I took 2 .357 hollow points. One to each leg.

Kidney stones hurt worse. Much worse.

I haven't tried it, because I don't drink at all now, but I don't think anyone would think less of you for downing a few beers to work loose a stone. I'm Southern Baptist, and we don't really look to fondly on drinking, but if it works, it works. If/when I get another, that's the first thing I'm gonna try. But I'll try not to enjoy it, and I promise to feel guilty afterwards.

I've been fighting kidney stones (calcium) as well for about 10 years. My last one was 5mm. It sucked!!

Here's a remedy for ya, in addition to drinking lots of water, cutting back on leafy greens and animal protiens, and never taking antacids:

Drink full strength fresh-squeezed lemon juice (as much as you can handle) in the morning. Make sure to brush your teeth afterwards - the lemon can eat away your enamel. During the day, drink as much water as possible and squeeze one lemon into each glass. When you feel a stone coming on, drink a shot of olive oil (yeah it's disgusting, but it helps the stone pass quicker).

Citric acid from lemon juice breaks down the calcuim stone. I've been consuming lots of lemons for the past several months and my kidney stones are a thing of the past. In July I had a CT scan and it showed I had an 8mm stone in my kidney. My CT scan last week shows nothing.

Also, taking a magnesium supplement is helpful to prevent calcuim stones.

Good luck!!

Ya i have a pill contaner that i put them in after catching them in a strainer. I carry percocet pain killers with me but it realy sucks because my last attack was when i was on vacation in Mexico two days in the hospital wasen't eny fun. My last altrasound shows that i still have one in my left kidney and two in my right when they analysis them they were calcium.Idid every thing i was told to but my body still produces them.Maybe i just need to drink more beer lol.

Drink BEER, at least three bottles, its a natural dieretic, at the same time it relaxes the urinary track so that you can pass the stone! It worked with me many a times. That's a fact! GOOD LUCK!
Some people will use any reason to justify having a few beers....:toothy10::toothy10:

Beer flushes, had a girlfriend that doctor told her to drink beer.(urinary). A swig of white vinegar always does your body good.

Just passed a huge stone that has been stuck in me for over a month in a bad place. (if you know what I mean) Man I have been in SO Much Pain this past month with these. So much better now. Hope that I do not get another one this big.

The last one I had I drank fresh squeezed lemon juice/olive oil coctails - some kind of home remedy to help pass them. No idea whether it helped or not but when you're that miserable you'll try anything.

man those tales sound bad, sorry for you guys...

I've taken to drinking fresh lemon to try and cure a recurring sickness. I'll say it almost does as well as coffee for waking you up. (now i have even more reason why i'm not brushing enough)

This holiday season I cooked my family a meal and it was pretty spicy, my mom ended up rolling on the ground in pain. She went to the hospital and they found she had gall bladder stones. felt bad for sending her to the hospital...

hope you can make this your last fishy, try the lemons they be good.

Bummer man but glad to hear you finally passed it. I finally passed the last one early last week. Hope I don't get another for a loooooooooooooooong time!

I'm sure your food couldn't have caused stones in her immediately. Just made them flare up. It's best to take care of them ASAP so you probably did her a favor.

If I get one again (hope not) I'll remember the lemon juice. I'm not crazy about lemon juice but it pales in comparison to stones.

Wow Fishy, sorry to hear this.

Thanks Joe.

LOL... I know what you mean.

Well I might not be done yet. Pee'd blood again this morn. :angry7:

Ultrasound is only used to locate the stone... the method of breaking them up is Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Say that three times.
Uses shock waves to break up a area pinpointed.

Passed a small one just before Christmas... some of lifes little treasures.. blah !

I have stuck to a pretty good regiement of diet... and still get them. Mine are Calcium based mostly. There are literally hundreds of things that can cause them... Coffee, teas, soda, etc.. The worse one is Hereditary. Which you can do nothing about. Your body just creates them because your body doesnt like calcium.

Get a prescrition of Flowmax as it opens the path. Also have a stand by of Codine, or lots of Ibuprofen. Lots. Get me through each time. Pain is manageable now cuz I know when they are coming.

Good luck to all.

After suffering for years with those things, I switched from coffee to tea and got rid of all of the pain. When I look at the used coffee filter I imagine all those grinds being in my kidneys. It might by psychosomatic but it works. I do miss the coffee though LOL.

my doc told me the same thing no coffee or greens or peanuts. worst pain ever and ive had atleast a dozen and 2 surgeries. prayer for ya hope it ends soon..

My urologist gave me a document called "Dietary Recommendations for recuurent Kidney Stones". I scanned it and you can download it at the link below if interested. It's an eye opener and I'm a miserable failure at following the recommendations. He told me to ignore the page on 'Dietary Protein' because it didn't apply to me (the type of stones I get?)

Can't they use ultrasound to break the stones up? I remember when my dad went through this many years ago, not good.

Except for the first one that took a few weeks to pass I've been passing them pretty fast, within a few days. As long as they pass they don't seem to want to do anything for ya.

Unfortunately I can't use Flomax as it gives me severe migraines but luckily I have a script for Vicodin cause of my back problems. The problem is a lot of times it hits me so sudden I don't have a chance to get a vicodin down.

my doc told me the same thing no coffee or greens or peanuts. worst pain ever and ive had atleast a dozen and 2 surgeries. prayer for ya hope it ends soon..

Thanks for the prayers. Right now I feel that's about the only thing that helps as the doc doesn't seem to do much.

I had that done last time, and it was a piece of cake. They put you to sleep first, then you wake up a little sore, but it is easier to pass dust and pebbles than boulders. I had a BAD reaction to the anestesia, so I will not be doing that again.

Sorry to here you can't take the Flomax, that stuff makes life a lot easier when passing the stones.

My urologist had a display case full of large and odly-shaped stones in his office, I asked him about them and he said they were all kidney and gall stones that had been removed. Some were the size of baseballs ans some looked like pieces of spikey coral. Man, that freaked me out!

I got a 2:20 appt. this afternoon and I'm gonna ask him about that.

I've heard some can be really nasty/freaky looking and huge.

Kidney stones are very common here in Va.. Seems like half the people I know have had an episode or two of them. They can usually be controlled by diet. Unfortunately if the water where you live is "hard" (like it is here) they`re difficult to avoid for those that are genetically predisposed. I have a friend who just had lithotripsy for reoccuring stones. Fortunate for her they caught it early as she once had an enormous "staghorn" stone that filled her entire kidney and had to be surgically removed. I feel your pain as I have passed one about ten years ago, (don`t want to relive that moment) but since have lived without another episode. Watch your diet and adhere to it and you should be good to go. Get well soon! :D

We do have very hard water here so I don't drink it. Haven't for over 4 yrs. since I had the first stone back then. Something has drastically changed because I'm eating exactly the same as I have for yrs. and only had the one stone 4 yrs. ago and they tested it and said it was because of a medicine I was taking and changed that med and I haven't had one since then until this episode. Went to the doc. today and he confirmed it is another. That makes 3 in just 2 months so he's sending me to a specialist tomorrow to see if he can tell what's happening. He said it could be my blood sugar is just too high. It was 284 today so he gave me some med for it. Once we know for sure what's causing it we can figure out a diet. Thanks for your thoughts.

I hope it`s a quick fix for you Fishy. As we age our chemistry is harder to maintain. Wishing you a return to health asap. :D
