Pulled out my old 4 blade OE fixed fan and replacing it with a flex fan. The old fan had an approx. 2" spacer on it with really long bolts and the fan itself was only about 2" away from the radiator. (had to remove radiator to remove bolts). I don't think the spacer is original and he shroud is long gone. So what is the proper spacing between the fan and the radiator?

Thats about the way it should be-about 2" clearance. And a shroud would help. You want the fan near the fins to move the air through the radiator and not pick it up from around the sides.

I assumed as much. Just making sure. I'll just get some studs and nuts for the water pump pulley to make install/removal easier. Recently upgraded my radiator from standard to HD cooling with the shroud mounts on the edge of the radiator frame. Would any shroud for the same radiator fit (like the small block), or will I need one specifically for the slant?

I think the shroud would depend on size of the fan and the location of the fan-is a slant six and a V8 fan in the same spot? That I do not know.

The fan is the same 17" as the original. Didn't have any overheating issues, but the radiator was cheaper to upgrade than to repair and the old stamped steel fan scared me. As far as the location of the fan, I assume the centerline would be the same on all cars (Aligned with the crank pulley and therefore the entire driveline). It's the height that I am unsure of.
