I bought a set of hoocker super comps for my demon, and Im having issues with clearance of the center link. Its hitting the center two tubes on the drivers side.

Does anyone on here have the same headers on a stock suspension car, and if not is there a different center link thats higher to clear the headers, or mayby different idler, and pitman arms.

Any help, I dont want to dent up a set of ceramic coated headers.

Kasey, I have the same ones on my Dart. I ran them and just thought it was the way it's going to be. However mine are not coated just the factory black. Not that I'm any help for you, I just wanted to llet you know I had the same problem.

I'm using the same ones on my dart, but I haven't put my transmission in yet, or bolted the engine down completely. Have you tried moving the engine at all? Loosening up the mounts from the k-member and just wiggling the engine around a little may help, although I know with my engine and headers bolted in, it does look tight.

I have thought of raisine the engine, and taking a die grinder and making the slots in the k member deeper to drop it down more, but then the pan goes lower. Im already sticking a bit down from K member.

I had some problems with mine also. As suggested before try moving the motor around. That is what it took to get mine to fit.

what is the part number on the headers?

take a look at your idler arm...does it curve or is it straight and drops..?

I havent tried loosening the bolts that hold the engine mounts to the block, and loosening the main engine mount bolt. Ill try that. Im about 1/2 a bolt from going together. I might mark where they hit, and take the center tubes to the shop press, and oval the tubes. That will at least make the "modification" look like its suposed to be that way.

well...from what i learned...there are two different ilder arms for 73+ A bodies...

my TTi headers did not fit...with the curved idler arm...

Is it the idler arm or drag link?

I had to get the Moog part number...

I had to disconnect my centerlink and run it through a space between the pipes on the driver side header on my 68 Barracuda. The instructions from Hooker mentioned that this may be required on certain models. It also mentions some cars will require raising the engine 3nches to install headers. I installed Hooker Competition headers PN#5901 on my car, not sure if Super Competition headers has a whole different set of issues when installing. If some company could design headers so that nothing needs to be removed modified or altered in anyway, so that one could just slide the header straight in and have no clearance issues with power steering gears or any other component on the car they would make a killing. Everyone that owns a muscle car would buy their headers only and no else's.

I have power steering on my car, they fit but with no room to spare. I'm not to familiar with Demon's, every model will have its own issues.

doesnt that mean that all the cars must have been built right in the first place, and not been altered over time aswell? to be honest there is noway one can design a set of 1piece headers that will install without some dissasemble and asembly of the rest of these cars there is just not that much space,it could be done if they are multipiece with slipjoints here and there but then people would complain about that they may not seal up perfectly and that they cant get the slipjoints to fit togheter after dropping a pipe on the floor. i built a set of 2"primary tube headers that will install without lifting the engine or any other kind of dissasemly on my car with powersteering and all tubes under chassies and over centerlink but there is noway they could be produced for others since there is to many diferences in these cars..

I bit the bullet and "adjusted" these, and the drivers side clears now, and I even polished a little bit of the center link where the casting was rougher than crap. Now they fit, I had to clearance the #5 tube at the center link, and the #3 tube at the steering box.

Well sucess!! I have clearance on the drivers side 100%, and my rem flexx gaskets should guarentee me no damn leaks!!

Thanks for the help guys, I have a few dents, and nothing too restrictive.

You should love those gaskets. Yea no leaks and reuseable. Congrats on the install.

I have been told they are NOT reusable, and are a total pain inthe butt to clean off, but Im not planning on ever reusing any header gasket.
