3 calls so far today and it is only noon. One of the calls was an invite to dinner on Saturday. My wife makes this really killer spanish rice, kind of starts out as a soup and then biols itself down to outstanding tasting rice. Our price of admission will be a pan of her rice.....and he did invite me to tag along with him on his trip to town tomorrow, if he goes. Anybody want a new friend??

Tried that, but he is so paranoid he will not even talk about it. It is 10:11 a.m., our phone is stll unplugged, wonder how many times he has tried to call us...

When I first moved in my girlfriends house I was unloading my race car( It has exhaust but is still loud) the old woman from across the street comes over with a list of rules 2 live by dated 1976. I looked it over and told her it didnt include us cause we didnt sign it. She started telling me she would have my car removed from MY house if I didnt take it somewhere else. I politely told her that when she paid our house pmt and property taxes she could tell me what I could or could not have @ my house. Otherwise she needed 2 step off our property. Lol.
Shes gone now and so are all the problems.

Strange how people think they can tell you what you can and can not do. I have never lived in a neighborhood that had an Association. Had a friend that did and he wanted to add 1 row of block to his wall accross the back, he had no neighbor behind him, just a street. The HOA told him he could no add a row. It took some reading, but he found in the laws of the HOA that walls were allowed to be 6' tall. His was only 5' tall. Took a letter from a lawyer to get them to ok the additional row of blocks...he also sued the association for his legal fees....

She thought I'd back down or listen. The a#$holes that run ours are all banker and lawyer wives! They got better things too do.

I lived in a place with a homeowner's association for a year. It sucked! You couldn't park a pickup there because it was considered a work vehicle. Same for a normal van unless it was a passenger van. People with those types of vehicles parked them in a school parking lot about 2 blocks away & walked the rest of the way home! There was a guy there who had a passenger van that he used to pick people up & take them to church & back home on Sundays. He was in a battle with the association because the van had the name of the church painted on the side of it & that made it a "Commercial" vehicle. They'd walk around to see what you had sitting on your patio behind your condo & send you letters if you had anything there they didn't like. No working on vehicles was permitted on the premises besides cleaning & routine maintenance. I still managed to change the engine in a VW Beetle in the parking lot (It's routine maintenance on those cars). Only reason I rented the place was because I was short on time to find a place to live. When my lease was up I got the hell out of there. Neighbors were great, though.

Gee, I'm puzzled.
I thought Americans were guaranteed "Life, Liberty & the pursuit of Happiness" This sounds more like "Slow Death, Slavery & Much Unhappiness"

Good gawd! I'd never live in a place like that. It's too close to nazi ism which I thought we went to war over...

Having a HOA in your neighbor hood or subdivision is a good thing IF it is used correctly. We suppose to have one in the neighbor hood I live in but the HOA has never formed so that means the covenants can be tossed in the trash. Anyways everyone so far is staying "with in reason" of the covenants.

I know a person who says "I wouldn't live in a place like that." (with HOA). Well his yard has junk all in it, old tires, old cars, dilapidated storage buildings, looks like a typical junk yard. His neighbors aren't happy I bet because their houses are actually depreciated in there value. One bad apple....

Hey mulinax I hear you. A big mess isnt allowable either, but that's the other end of the spectrum you gave,a rather extreme example. I could see the guy having one project outside as log as it was tarped and kept neat, whats the big deal? It just seems like a rights infringement to tell someone they cant have ANYTHIING ouside that a commitee doesnt approve. Im pretty sure people dont immigrate to the U.S or Canada wanting to live that way. Neither did our founding father's. It's a slap in thier faces for sure.

Better never pay me a vist, you would probably have a heart attack. Stevens County, the one I live in, is unincorporated. Very few rules and regs. It is a pretty common sight to see 15 junk cars out in field. The 2 green roofs in the bottom of the picture is my house and garage, the field of cars is just up the hill from me.

The committee doesn't have the right to come up and tell you can't have this and that... but if it is already in the bi laws then it needs to be removed. Then actually the item really doesn't need to be moved until the HOA is going to sue.

Most subdivisions / neighborhoods that have HOA is not your typical run of the muck houses. These houses are nice and the yards are nice. People that move into the subdivisions already know and have read the HOA conventants. These people want something nice and they want it to stay that way. These nicer neighborhood and houses basically weeds out the white trash people (junk yard kings) because they can't afford the house anyways.

The place that I rented was in Maryland & the owner had been transferred to Texas. Unfortunately, when I rented it I wasn't given a copy of the HOA rules so I wasn't aware of them until later. I wasn't trying to stir the pot or anything while I was there but some of the rules were pretty restrictive. The housing market was on a downswing there & a lot of the units there were for sale but the people owed more on them than they were worth. Also, as I recall, a lot of people had moved so about 40% of the units there were being rented instead of being lived in by their owners.

a hole neighbors are everywhere, we have'em here too.:-D
This is so true. That is why I am glad I live on 5 acres, at least they are a bit aways from me. One thing living in my area has taught me is to just ignore what the neighbors are doing. Worry about my 5 acres and not theres. I will die here, so resale value is of no concern to me. Thats why the trailer trash types that frequent this area don't concern me. A few property's away there is a family that was living in a school bus, wood burning stove and all. I am just going to to my best to make our place as comfortable as I can for us, and what the trailer trash on top of the hill does will be of no convern to me. For that matter, what the rest of the trailer trash in the 'hood does is there business.....:toothy10::toothy10:
