Hey guys, I'll be moving my box into a shop soon.

My question to you is: how do you all move your boxes? Do you use ramps into a truck/trailer and leave your tools in? If so, how do you keep your tools from getting all unorganized during the move? Tape?

Or do you pull all your tools out and move them separately?

Thanks,
Drake

If it is a big snap on or mac or matco tools box then I always get a buddy's flatbed tow truck to move it, rolls right on and ties right down, no moving or taking out tools just lock it up and go. If it is smaller and not too heavy like my roll cart, I take two boxes and put all my tools in there and get a buddy to help lift it in the truck and tie it down, unload it then put all the tools back

A snowmobile or race car trailer works great.

It's like a big snap-on box, it's harbor frieght though. It's gotta weigh over 600lbs full.

I used my winch and ramps with plywood for my friends box

but then again that's $60 if you dont know anyone. I work on that guys wrecker occasionally so he usually doesnt charge me for the tows. If your going to a shop that uses a certain tow company then ask them if they can get you a better rate to move it. just a thought

I take the tools out and use a separate box or those heavy plastic bins for each drawer that makes it easier to put them back in the correct place

Hum, it may just be easier to empty it into tupperware bins and throw the box in the back of my Durango...

I would use a engine hoist to remove and then put it in a truck and move it that way.Or 4-5 good strong guys to help, electric fork lift,or remove the draws one by one and then move the top and then the bottom.I have done most of these moving my box which is 11 feet by 3 feet by 6 feet,so I know, mrmopartech

Engine hoist! Genius! Thanks!!! I just got one and keep forgetting I have it!

Snap on and other tool truck drivers move them for a fee I belive. They have lift gates on thier trucks. I see the techs that come to out shop use them all the time.

I don't know about the other tool dealers but my business insurance doesn't
cover hauling someones tool box. Also, most large tool boxes weigh 800-1000#
empty. Most liftgates are 1200#-1500# capacity so the lifts won't even lift a loaded box.

When my gunsafe was delivered they used a lift gate to unload it. The safe was a bit over 1700 pounds + the crate material. I think toolmanmike might be a bit confused...

not sure... I know Snap On just brought a tool box (loaded) into the shop today. Just going by what I see.

The S/0 guy must have a heavier lift than mine. My lift is a 1600# lift. The MB1350 I have on my truck is 750# empty and makes the lift groan a bit. Tools weigh a lot and it doesn't take too many to weigh hundreds of pounds. The lift on a delivery truck (like a Tommy Lift) are stronger than tool truck lifts.

Can't you pull the drawers out, tools inside, and set them down in a pickup?

Or pull them out, load the box, then reinsert the drawers?

Be sure and strap around the drawers, don't depend on the locks to hold all that weight from moving.

An empty box that weighs a grand? I want one!!

we haul them for the mechanics of shops we tow for on one of our flatbed rollbacks for a nominal fee. It's cheaper than jerry rigging something up and risk damaging the box or loosing it in transit altogether...

Going from one garage with a lift to another you can use the arm of a two post to lift it up then back pick under and lower the lift and drive out. My kids Snap On box is about 6 ft long and has to be moved by a ramp truck. Don't think you could pick up that sucker empty.

That's usin' your noggin! Make sure you use sturdy straps.

I was going to suggest the lift arms also, that's what we have done before. I have a large Craftsman box and loaded, I used a forklift to get it into a pick up truck then used the lift to get it back out. My buddy used his Rampage to move his HUGE Matco box years ago, loaded. It worked.

Yup. The tool guys are good about doin that. Pick the one you spend the most with. He'll do it. Also, a rollback works well too. 50 or 60 bucks for a roolback beats tools and box splattered all over the road.
