My buddy is adjusting the valves on my 70 dart with the /225. He went to turn the crank and the bolt is missing. I drove it home about 150 miles when I first bought it and have been driving for about a month and the pulley hasn't flown off!. Can anybody send me one quickly (payment would be made just as pronto); or tell me where they are available other than the salvage yard; foot and a half of snow yesterday. Thanks

I think I've heard of this on some slants before. I've read on this forum that the factory had actually used the bolt to press on the balancer and then removed it.?? Sounds weird to me and my 225 had the bolt in place. Hopefully someone will chime in with more slant knowledge- Wheres slantsixdan when you need him!?
Small block bolt will work also

It's fairly rare to have a slant 6 with a balancer bolt. The only ones I remember having them from the factory are some manual trans vehicles....mainly trucks and vans with the double or triple groove balancer. Like 65Dartman says, if you're worried about the balancer coming off, you can use a small block bolt if you add a couple of washers. You'll need to clean out the threaded hole real well and maybe run a thread chaser in it. In 40 years of working on Mopars, I think I've seen 3 slants that had a balancer come loose from the crank.....all from improper reinstallations where they cracked the hub.

If you use the smallblock bolt you will need to add anothe thick washer or shave it down about 1/4" as they are longer than the rare and almost never used slant bolts.

If it's been on there for years, I'd leave it the way it is. When I pull one off for any reason, I use a small block bolt to reinstall it and then just leave the thing on when I'm done. But then again, I have lots of extra small block balancer bolts so I don't have to go scrounge one!
