Is anyone here close enough and willing to go look at a car for me?

It's a '69 Barracuda, 318 auto. Says it needs floor work on driver side, trunk extensions, minor rust repair on quarters and an inner fender which comes with the car. He says he has the interior removed and in his basement ...needs front seat skins, carpet and headliner.

his pictures SUCK, so I need someone to check it over with a Mark-1 Eyeball

I live about 10 minutes away from the Trenton base. I'd be willing to go take a look at this car and get some good pics for you if you want. I do have a very good eye when it comes to cars and know the areas to look at, I would give you an honest opinion on this car. Let me know if you want me to do this and where to view it and I'll get looking

WOW ...that was quick, thanks I appreciate this!!!

it's a project for sure ...it's the black primer one on kijiji. All I have so far is this http://belleville.kijiji.ca/c-ViewMap?AdId=244446573

I've been in email contact and I'll ask for his address and a timing, I think he was a little apprehensive to give it to me when I said I was going to try and find someone to look at it for me.

here's the pics

okay apparently I don't know how to upload pics

Let me know what you want me to do, try to contact the guy or wait for you to get a response re: his address etc.? I don't want to mess up a potential deal for you by acting like I want the car and him find out it's for someone else. I wouldn't get a chance to look at it until the first part of next week but would be happy to take a look for you.

Definitely a project, it's hard to tell from his pic's like you said, but it does looks pretty solid plus it is a notchback. If it came from Alberta like he claims then it shouldn't be too bad depending on how long it's been in Ontario and how much winter driving it's seen. We can take a look and keep our fingers crossed.

Not trying to put a damper on it, but this car has been for sale for well over a year. I inquired about it quite a while ago. Never went and looked at it though. The pics of it in the snow are from last winter. You'd think he'd buy a tarp or something. Hope this aint a fabo members car. Good luck! Oh good job Dodgefreak steppin up and helping out. I was going to offer as I am a little over an hour away, but ya beat me to it!!

over a year, that's good to know if the time comes to start talking money.

I think it's a kid who's father works on the base ....just a hunch but we'll see. Yeah you think he'd at least have a tarp over it and a series of decent photos

Ya I know its been for sale for a long time now, will definitely check it over real good for Xsapper041 I don't want to see him get a POS. I'm curious as to why it has not sold yet, the price does seem kinda high judging by the pics. I'll take a close look at this one and see whats up!

To be honest I would think the pics(snow) are scaring people off. Yeah a notch in decent shape and if its v8 makes it interesting. $$$ is so tight right now(for me anyway) if it checks out, I would wave $2500. One other thing, get the vin, then spend $20 on a UVIP, or ask him for his. That will show you just how long its been in Ontario. Of course ask the guy 1st how long its been here for(lie detector test). Good luck!!

I wonder why there is a clutch leaning against the white door panel in an automatic trans car??

Good tip I was going to get the vin and try to get the fender tag info anyway.
Thanks

Looks like someone's got the barracuda bug!! My opinion if you want to spend that much between 5-8k, bring one up from the south or cali...just my opinion.

yeah I know ...I'm trying to find out what's involved in doing just that. My top 2 choices are 67-69 Dart or Barracuda. I just love the interiors in the cuda ...I think they were ahead of their time ..just look at the round gauges and the back seat. Maybe I'm looking at the "deluxe" interior but still....

just realized you have a '69 formula s (duh) ...sometime if you have some spare time with nothing to do would you mind taking a few minutes to edjamacate me on the options and differences between the 3 years. I've seen the notchback photo thread

I have seen this one on KIJIJI as well. The guy by email anyway didnt seem to egar to say or sell anything towards the car. JMO on this...If you like this style of car and know its a project car and your happy with what you can get for.....Than buy it.It dosent matter what others think...$$$$$ that is. Sure no one wants to get ripped but im sure with searching around you can get a bit of a average price. Im new to all of this as well. I purchased a 67 Dart back in Nov...Some people may say i paid to much or not. Ive been looking for along time and it kind of fell in my lap. I got it for $4,600.00....Needs a few spots on the front floor fixed...Grille,headliner and bows, carpet and trunk ext. pan welded in .came with car....It too was taken apart well alot of it. He would have got more for it if it was complete. I took a chance and hoped all of the stuff was there except what he said was missing. So far so good.......I wish you good luck and if it dont work out.........Remember...it wasnt ment to be..Edd

I hear you

he seemed eager UNTIL I said I had someone 10 minutes away willing to look at it and take the pictures that he couldn't provide ....not a peep since:angry7:

I appreciate you telling me what you paid ...it helps me to get an idea of a canadian average depending on condition ...would you mind sending me some pictures of it?

I was talking to a bud at work today ...he's not into mopars, his stuff is a LOT older than that ....he's brought a couple across the border and it goes pretty slick but you must have all the paperwork in order, which eludes to the fact that you have got to be able to trust the seller, and he has to be someone willing to work with you to get it done. That right there rules out craigslist/ebay/etc ...it'd have to be someone known to others to be reputable.

all it costs to bring a car across is a $100-&-change fee and the taxes as long as the car is at least 15 years old, clear title, registered in the same name as the one on the bill of sale, title at US customs 72 hours prior to the car arriving. The last one he did (this past summer) took 10 minutes flat.

So importing one is "likely" the way I'll do it ...probably less than 8 grand including shipping to the border for a running car that if I don't like I can sell here for double what I have into it.

so yeah ...wrong time of year to be trying to ship a car so I'm not about to buy something in the next week, just trying to get a feel for what stuff is worth as compared to what someone wants to sell it to you for. Everyone has a friend who knows someone to give you a smoking deal of only twice what they paid for it in the same condition ...I've done this all before with bikes and other stuff ...same ****, just heavier and need to do my research :read2:

You're on the right track to avoid buying from someone off craigslist or ebay, much better to buy from someone on a site like this.Just make sure that they've been a contributing member for awhile and have more than a couple posts.

I've bought two cars from FABO members in the U.S. and it's gone really well both times (thanks Jim and Mike,if you're reading this). Both sellers were very accomodating with the process of sending money and paperwork both ways and again with storage and pickup when the shipper arrives.
Definitely much better than sending money to someone on Craigslist who could vanish at anytime.

Do you still want me to check this out for you? It sounds like the seller might be a bit of d*#k to deal with from what I've been reading on this thread. The guy wants to sell it but won't respond to people interested in this car sounds fishy to me (just my opinion). I'm still willing to look at it for you if you want but if you don't think you want this one let me know.

I prefer to use a professional import broker myself. The $3-400.00 they charge is well worth the money to get the job done right. DO NOT try and save taxes by lowering the amount of the bill of sale. CCRA knows the difference between chicken salad and chicken ****. Make sure you vet the trucking company carefully too - get some references from people you know. Good luck in your search - with the CDN dollar up, now is the time to buy.................
