Birth of the Blue Missile

Well, It looks like your floor is already needing some work, so what is a little more right?

Ben,
I put in the replacement floor pans last year and knew that I was going to have to modify the tranny tunnel so I just used sheet metal screws as a temp solution until I had the tranny to work from.
I went and made cross sections at key points and peeled the floor open like an onion.
I then worked everything back to the mockup tranny and welded all the seams.
Next is getting the tranny in and getting the cross member remade.

Here is the next bit of WTF.
I know some of you will hate this, but its something I've been seeing everytime I looked at the car.
I always wanted a rear spoiler, but I did not like the look of the Go wing or the ducktail spoilers, and the trailing edge of the trunk lid always looked like it would make a cool spoiler. If I had a spoiler I wanted it to develop a fair amount of down force so it was useful not just there for looks.
Well I picked up a rear hatch from a Chrysler Crossfire and used the retractable spoiler mechanism to make one out of the trunk lid's upper skin.
I had to extend the shaft and plate for the mechanisim adding 17" to the 19" support points.
There is still alot of metal to put back sealing the trunk, but the mechanics are all worked out. It raises and lowers quite smoothly.

now that is pretty dang slick. you planning on making the undersides a little more finished? looks like it may be somewhat flimsy the way it is now (the wing part, that is)

Thanks
Yes, now that I have the mechanics all worked out, sealing up the lid and giving the wing an underside are the next steps.

Thats just cool! I don't think you'll have a hard time getting in any magazines with this car or winning trophies.

As cool as this car is in photos, I will tell you I saw it a few weeks ago and can tell you the pics do not do it justice.

Way to go Andrew for making us all look like slackers! :)

Andrew, I just went through your whole build, and you are definately not afraid to try anything. I see a lot of similarities like Cadillac seats, the same gas cap, and some carbon fiber, ( which you did a great job on ). You want to do my spoiler? Keep up the great work....

Tincup
I just spent 6 hours on one piece of metal, the back for the motor compartment for the spoiler. Ill do it for you, but Im slow and expensive:toothy10::toothy10:
Andrew

Here are a couple of pics of the spoiler on for a test fit.

Here are some update pics on the spoiler. Getting the trunk lid watertight is the next priority.First was the back of the compartment and then a partial bottom to stiffen it up. Then a lip for the opening to attach a gasket to. Finally the top skin which will be exposed to the weather.

Andrew..you need to change your name to..James Bondo....you got more trick **** than George Barris,Ship Foose, and the boys at O.C.C. combined!!! Outstanding!!!....by the way...is that thing gonna shoot anything(rockets/smoke screen/oil slick..ect) out the back of it?.....all kiddin' aside...I like!

Yes I have...many times...thats why I asked...I just wasn't sure which (if any) you wouldn't do!!.......PS..Love the "Missle" theme...always been a fan of Don Carlton/Mopar Missle.....did you have the Blue Missle Duster at the 'Nats in Columbus a few years ago?

Andrew, from the center line of the crossmember to the center of the mount on the 545 is exactly 3"

I thought I saw it there 3-4years ago....being a big fan of the "Mopar Missile"...I always take notice of that particular scheme....but it could just be my imagination....I know someone had a relatively "stock" Duster with the black/yellow/orange('73) paint job several years ago....maybe I'm confused with that one....at least I can still remember my name.....
