ok, got my frist mopar a 1967 dart 270 2door h/t factory white with red gutz. she sports a 273 auto with a 8 3/4 suretrack. it's a numbers car but has a mild cam intake carb and headers. the car is super clean and i picked it up on a whim. that was last summer. had a open house party 2 day before new years and the guy i got it from came by with all the parts to put it back to stock. intake, carb, exhaust manifolds etc. all my cars i've had have been hot rod, well all but two. my 66 tripower GTO and my 69 427 copo camaro. my plan was to make this car go fast, real fast. but with the org. parts in hand i'm thinking maybe stock? it's not a GT or GTS so what to do. any thoughts. cheers jeep

GTA??? if you ment GTS i dont think they had them in 67

They had some 67 GTS think they were all 383 cars.

As far as what to do. I like them hot rodded with a stock body and interior. Add a stock looking motor that will put out 500 horsepower and that is what I'm thinking is cool. Maybe add a set of wheels and tire to dress it up.

Do you have any history on your Dart? a friend of mine had one identical to that years ago here in Victoria.I wonder if it's the same car...

fix it like you will get the most enjoyment out of. If it was a GTS, or GT and you are into the original stuff then you might consider it. Mine are like I want them but kept original items in case later someone might want to go back to original. I had rather drive them and cut up myself. That is still my buzz even at my age.

You will have to weigh it out as far as the originality thing goes. Did you see the guy in Mopar Action that did a total resto on a 1970 valiant 4dr? Spent like 100 grand or something like that. Granted the car is not worth that much but now it is a certified car that could be used as an example for other resto's. Be careful, the resto route is a slippery slope if you want to do it correctly. The thing is, how far do you want to go?
Original is original and anything else is not. It could really get expensive to go back to original if you want to find things like original belts, tires, hoses and al those little things. (the mopar resto crowd are a tough bunch to make happy. they will give you a hard time for the smallest of details, god forbid if you have overspray in the wrong spot)
I'd go with something you can enjoy, whatever that may be. That is why I would pick the non-stock route. It's more fun driving these things and not worrying about it.
oh well, just my .02 worth. That dart would be neet with a 340 & 4spd!

Do you want people nit picking every nut and bolt on your car or do you want to be able to go out, drive it and enjoy it?!? You can build it any way you want.

Pull the engine and put it in storage with the parts the PO gave you and as long as you don't cut it up, you can always go back.

Yes they did make a GTS in 67 because I have one they built 457 of them. Mine is a 383 car with 4 speed dark copper exterior with a light copper interior. In 67 a GTS was only a 383 car the GT was available with a 273 or 6 cyl.

Hey man it all boils down to what you really want. My 67 GT is a 273 car that came with a 7 3/4 rear end. It is now a bored 340 with a 3.55 sure grip with ralleye wheels. I have the 273 crated up, and I manually turn it a few times a year to keep it lubricated and will not sell it. My interior is the same as it was in 67 minus some new carpet in the early 80's. You have the stock stuff which is great, so go whatevwer route you want, and if you are not happy, you can go the other way later. The 67 Darts do like nice stock though.

at the end of the day i just want to go fast! i bought it to hot rod it with the factory int. and stock body ( i'll add a hood) with some 15" steely's as per drive line time will tell. i'll have to stop by and find out about the 67 GTS in port to see if it's the real deal but i know it's a six car with GTS marking. it's been around for as long as i can remember.

Sounds good. If it is a 67 GTS, although can't see why someone would convert a 67 GTS to a six, but wierder things have happended and the gas market of the 1970's would have been an issue, it is a rare find. The 67 GTS model was the first year for the Dart GTS and it came with the 383. Check the vin, because that will be the clue, unless someone messed around with that as well. There are a few guys here in FABO with beautiful 67 GTS cars. Personally I hope one day to have the funds to buy myself a 67 GTS to go with my 67 GT. For your car do what is going to make you happy. Good luck!

Carl where are the pics of that gem of yours? I wanted to start drooling over my keyboard again, but the pics were gone.

A guy on here pm'ed me a few days ago about a 67 GTS that his friend has for sale. He thought I may be interested in another. I love them but have enough for myself so if anyone may be interested in that one I could get you a phone number so you can talk to him. Think he wants $18,000. The real deal is rare. I have owned mine since brand new in 67. Joe

HEY NOW!

I have a 67 and it took me 5 years to make the same desicion.
I am going to add custom rims, change out the 71/4 to an 83/4, some mild engine work.
I am going to keep the orginal parts also. Took me so long as a Dart stock is so great to look at.
Look at how the effects of bright sunlight changes the color

If anyone wants to verify if the car is a 67 gts just look at the inside of the drivers door post. The vin will start with LP not LS that didn't happen until 68, and the fifth digit in the vin will have an H. Assuming the vin wasn't tampered with. By the way when I found my car it had a six in it and the 4 speed pedals were there but someone put an automatic in it. Go figure, stranger things have happened. Here are some pics.

Mark

You aint kidding about our cars being long lost brothers. How cool would that be to sit side by side at a mopar show. Too bad you're so far away.

Carl that would be a show stopper for sure. Maybe some day we can get these two twins together. Big Brother (383) and little brother (340) would make a cool picture!
