Best mounting location for new floor shifter

I would do it where you have it in the first pic. The previous owner of mine put it where you have it in the second pic (maybe even forward a hair more), and it seems too far forward, especially since it's a reverse manual shift pattern. Like the others said, sit in the seat and see where it feels best.
