Got this 74 swinger all wheel drum manual, can I install a vacuum booster and make them power drum brakes? Need help as brake systems arent my strong suit... Any input is welcome...

You can but you will need to change the master cylinder and the pedal linkage. Look for one in the wreaking yard and get it all.

There is a kit out there that uses wider hats and ceramic brake pads.....confusedcuda has them on his ride.

It was a reasonable way to get stopping power without changing his 10" drums and 4" bolt pattern.

PM him and he can tell you how they work.

what model cars will interchange? lika a volare82 or something for example, something easy to find in the junkyrd. Can it come from a disc car?

exactly what im after, good brakes that wont brake me!!

yes manual drums suck got to manual disks and you wont get the over boosted twitchy feel like you would with power. Manual disks are pretty easy on the leg too.

power brakes dont stop faster
disk brakes stop faster

I agree. My duster has manual disc brakes, and I don't have a problem with them at all. I actually kind of prefer them over power because I get more of a feel from the feedback through them.

I have had 11 mopars over the years and I loved them all except for a 69 roadrunner. It was also the only one that didn't have disc breaks. I hated that car, it was friggin frightening to drive and almost impossible to stop, it sucked. Get some disc and don't think twice about it.

if you have 9" drums, FORGET IT! they suck at best
if you have 10" drums, not so bad, I have been driving mine for a while (years and thousands of miles) with GOOD 10" drums and it stops fine
that said I am converting to disk brakes

Interesting, I've got manual discs on the spacer and i've been unable to find power booster or correct prop valve,...maybe i won't need to change them after all you say...

I have manual '73 and up bbp disc brakes and 10' rear drums on an 8 1/4 rear diff in my '69 Valiant. They work great, feel just right to me, everything was new or rebuilt.
The 9'' stockers were scary to say the least.

The master cylinder has to be from a drum brake car. Drums use spring pressure to keep the pads off the braking surface, so the drum master keeps some residual pressure in the line so the braking time is reduced. A disk master will not do this, and won't brake properly.

On a disk car, a drum master cylinder will cause the brakes to drag.

So, drum master cylinders have to stay with drums and disk master cylinders with disks.

I have to agree with the manual disc crowd. I've had a power disc 75 Duster, 73 manual disc Duster and have driven an all drum 72 Duster... of the 3, the manual disc one has the best "feel" IMHO and it will lock up the 245/40/17 tires on the front if need be... that's if the rears don't lock up first

I have power (hydroboost) drum brakes. can bring the car from 60-0 real quick if nessasary 8)

I had 11" drums front and rear on my coronet (thats what my friend told me when I bought it from him). I know they were quite big and wide. Worked excellent for normal driving. Dont know if they would work at 180 mph in a curve. Manual brakes, excellent feel and response.

I think Willwood sells a conversion kit to swap disc,s onto your drum spindles.Do a google search.Good luck.
