How cold is it where you live!

Too cold. Its 28 degrees now here in northern Virginia, but will be down in the lower teens tonight. I hate winter and never more than when I have trouble with the furnace. Got home from work on Monday and no heat. Service technician got it working on Tuesday morning $276.00, but implied that it might not continue working till spring without another $700.00 in repairs, which he couldn't do at that time and it would take 2 or 3 business days to get parts. I didn't schedule the additional work. Friday night I got home and again no heat. This time they couldn't get it going again, but still charged $115 for the visit. Rather than spend another $700.00 on the existing 17 year old furnace, I decided on a new furnace for $3200.00 which will be installed Tuesday. We won't have any temperatures above freezing between now and then. Went out and bought two electric space heaters and borrowed two more from work. I'm afraid of pipes freezing, especially since the house sits on a crawl space. I've got all the faucets dripping indoors but the outdoor faucets won't budge and I'm not forcing them. They may already be frozen since I'm sure the pipes leading to them in the crawl space are alot colder.
I have three space heaters on the main floor and one upstairs. Overnight it stayed about 58 upstairs and was about 48 downstairs.
I have a gas log fireplace that I always figured would be a great backup heat source if the furnace ever failed. But I haven't used it in probably 8 years and couldn't get the pilot light lit. DOH!!
