so that i understand correctly in order to run anything than mopar performance valve springs the x-heads will need machine work

using the 292 509 cam man mopar spring prices are crazy
18.00 bucks a pop

I dont know about x heads but I bought the edelbrock performer rpm springs instead of the pricey mp springs for my 440 with 452 casting heads and 509 298 mp cam. The profile of the 2 cams is close enough for me and it was a huge price difference.

You need the spring that matches the cam. Then you need to have the head cut to properly fit the spring... I can't recall what the pressures for the recommended spring are for the 509. It's just been a decade since I ran one. But I seem to recall a single spring w/dampener being a possibility. Most modern grinds need dual springs and the heads need the guides and spring seats cut for them.

The performer springs have a dampner and the seat pressure was very close to the mp cam, the heads did not need any work for them to fit and unless your running it at 6 grand plus all the time ( Im not!) then they will do just fine and keep your valves in check and from floating at the occasional hell run or what i like to call " cleaning it out" for way less money.

Go to the dealer and tell'em you want a price break on the springs. I do this on every part I purchase from the local Chrysler dealer on there MoPar Pewrformance line. (Except cloths and mugs and junk like that)
Tell'em you do some light racing and will run there dealer sticker in the window in exchange for a cheaper price. Place it in the 1/4 glass and tell people that you get a nice deal, better than summits or Jegs.

This has worked for me for the last , ummm, I guess 17 years, cause that is how old my daughter is. I used to walk in with her in the car carry seat with bottle in mouth.

The MP springs are designed to work with that cam, nice and E-Z - Pe-Zee.
