I have an A904 that I want to have built for my TT SBM project. Its use will be mostly street with occasional strip use. It will have a Trans Brake, Reverse Manual Valve Body and all the goodies.
To be safe I need it to handle 1000+hp and 1000+tq.

Any thoughts?

You can build one to do it, but it ain't cheap. Bucky Hess ran a 904 in his Hemi SS/A Barracuda for a long time with power like that and it held together. You'll have a grand just in drums alone.....BUT a 727 will cost just as much and rob more power. To me the choice would be clear. 904.

Louis I'm not a 904 guru but one thing I can guarantee is it'll take a whole lot of billet parts to make it strong enough to withstand that. One big downfall is the small converter snout. You'll probably be spending big bucks on a billet converter also. I know the 904 is a little more efficient but with 1000 ft. lbs. of tq. why don't you just go with a 727? It'll still take some billet parts to make a 727 handle that much power but in the end I think you'd actually spend less and with that much torque I can't imagine you'll see much diff. in how it runs. Just my .02

Look up Chris Andrews Race Transmissions(member 346Duster)Maybe he can give some good advise about the 904 or 727 for your application.Just a thought,he helped me.Good Luck.

Ok, Thanks for the input guys...........

I may be looking for an A727 to start the build off of. I am hoping that the Bell Housing area is not too much bigger than the 904 or I will need to modify my Downpipes that route past the firewall.
I will make some calls and get more educated on the subject before I make a move.

Chris Andrews is super knowledgeable on all things torqueflite so he's who I'd call if I had a question. I have never directly compared the bellhousing area's of a 904 to a 727 but a 727's pump is a little bigger so I'm sure there is a little difference. I don't think it's much though. Right after the pump is mainly where the 727 gets fatter.

When I picked up my Short Block today, I talked to Brian at IMM Engines a little about the use of my car and the 904 Trans. He was saying that I will Never get it to hook on the street so it may be just fine to use it with the Modifications that Dave at Pro Trans does.
I would agree with him on the hooking part for sure. It may start to Hook after 100MPH in 3rd gear going Sideways! haaaaa:happy6:

The car will be Mostly street with the occasional trip to the local tracks So I am thinking a Built 904 by Pro Trans may do the job just fine. If it was a total Strip Car, full out race I would spend the Dough.

I did get a price from SMR for a full out Race A727............
They want $5700.00 for the trans and $1500.00 for a Billet Converter. That is a whopping....$6200.00 Total before shipping and Taxes! OUCH.....

Thanks Tracy!

I found Chris Andrews website and phone number. I will call him and see what he says.

I should probably wait til it comes off the Dyno to see exactly how much power it makes then go from there........Confused as usual

Your welcome. It never hurts to shop around. All the companies mentioned are great companies. Another great company is Cope Racing Transmission in Indiana. Yeah having the actual #'s does help a lot. You never know what it might make more HP than you think. If so that'll be one wild ride.
:burnout:

In California...call Dave Smith at Pro Trans in Palmdale Ca...

he is the one who makes all the billet parts for the 904s that are in 727 cases...

also..with that HP..look for a ProFlite.....

With 1000 ft lbs you may not need a 3 speed. The "powerglides" that most Super Series racers use today are all aftermarket parts and can take the kind of power you will be making. I am not suggesting you use one, but the 2 speed is an option and would be cheaper to to buy than a t/flite for high hp engines. Just another option.
